The ultimate ultra-lite: A bicycle-powered RV

Camper%20Bike.jpg

BOSTON -- Like many artists, Kevin Cyr can be a bit eccentric. But, he's also very resourceful in that he takes his home with him as he travels the streets of Boston looking for derelict cars and unkept landscapes as the subjects of his paintings.

Cyr devised his own "camper bike" in April 2008. Built on an adult tricycle chassis with a truck camper attachment, the camper bike is fully human powered.

"There’s a sense of freedom to be found in loading up your RV with all you need to survive and hitting the road to explore new places and commune with nature. This RV does it a little differently - as you’ll notice it’s completely human powered, about half the size of a normal cab-over camper, and it’s completely emission free," writes blogger Bridgette Meinhold at www.inhabitat.com.

"The pedal powered camper was constructed in April 2008 and is built for one. Attached to a burly tricycle frame made to haul goods, the cab-over easily sits on the back platform. Like a turtle shell this camper goes anywhere the owner can bike it. The camper’s interior features small and efficient appliances as well as a place to sleep and storage," she added.
Cyr’s camper is also the subject of a number of his paintings, which feature RVs, delivery vans, ice cream trucks, beat up old trucks and motorcycles. His current work will be on display at the Alden Gallery in Provincetown, Mass. from Aug. 21 to Sept. 8.

Always innovating, Cyr has also devised an even smaller camper built on a shopping cart. To see pictures of that, visit his website at www.kevincyr.net.

However---the picture doesn't match the article. That is clearly a picture from Korea. The Hongul writing on the building in the background and the type of power line configuration are dead give-aways.

Great observations everyone.

We have signed a memorandum of understanding and non-disclosure agreements with the designer and we're in intellectual property rights acquisition talks now. Hope to be in production this fall.

JUST KIDDING :D But yeah, it was picked up on an industry trade blog as real. Perhaps it's a concept only. The guy is an artist. His mind seems limitless.

Someone needs to get over to Provincetown, MA to check out his collection by September 8th.

Hey Jim, maybe Heartland ought to make one like that for real just as a gimmick for the big show where the new models are introduced. I bet they would get some free nationwide coverage with it.

Did anyone check the VIN on that cart? Since those shopping carts are pretty expensive, that may be a stolen vehicle from the grocery store! :D
