Maintaining Dometic electric awning without sensor/remote

I "dip" the awning down as low as it will go and then mop it off with a microfiber head on an 8' pole. We leave the awning deployed all the time so it collects pollen, leaves, and pine cones, and needs to be cleaned off regularly.
