Preventative Maintenance/Modification---replaced my water heater check valve

Well thanks to the unfortunate events of kakampers and their failed/broken plastic check valve for the water heater I finally replaced mine with a brass check valve. I did this after I de-winterized my rig. I was also a bit more fortunate than Ken and Kathy in that I already had all the stuff out of the basement and had the walls removed from last year. And even better, I was able to remove the plastic check valve without breaking it. I did find that a pipe wrench worked the best to remove the plastic check valve.

BTW, When it comes to this type of repair I much prefer pipe dope over teflon tape.

Thank you Ken and Kathy for sharing,

Mark

Where did you get the check valve and do you have the part number for it? Since I've got my basement torn apart, and have to fix a leak downstream from that fitting, I might as well do that now. My plastic one is white nylon, though.

John,
I added a link to my original post.

Thanks, Mark. Looks like a brass double male union is needed, too. Being that it's a Camco product, I might be able to find it locally at one of the RV parts stores near me.

That is correct John, I chose to get one with a hex in the center to make it easier to tighten. Worked great and I got it at Lowes.
