So...what is this cut out in the kitchen cabinet above the microwave for? Can I cover it?

Is that supposed to be a shelf or is the top of the microwave exposed in there? Looking at the photos on HL website, it looks like a "design element."

Not deep enough to make a wine rack out of so I would add some silk greenery. That's what I have done in my LM.

I thought about putting spices or something up there but my wife is too short to make that work! We'll think of something! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't needed for ventilation or something.
