 I know you had to learn what to look for in a campground yourself. But we just started camping. I'm talking green as a gourd as the say in the south. If you wouldn't mind sharing some info with us about your favorite places to go. We have found it hard to believe the info we see online about the campgrounds we have looked at going to. Is it like when I was a kid and my dad and mom would look a borchures and pick a place for vacation. When we got to the place and looked at it in person it looked like the picturein the brochure was takin 20 yrs earlier.

Thanks

It really depends on what you like to do. Do you have kids? The COE parks are really good. They are very well maintained and there are lots of them. Don't know what part of GA you're in, but Defeated Creek in Tennessee is one of my favorites. We have a 12 year old boy and 8 year old girl so we have to find places that have stuff for kids. State parks are great. We are partial to Tennessee State Parks even though we live in Alabama. Fall Creek Falls is one of the best in my opinion. It has lots of trails, tons of campsites, hiking trails, plenty of water to play in, and it's way back from the highways and interstates. The last time we went I couldn't even get a cell signal in the park. One thing we learned was that if you have never been to a place before, only pay for one night. That way if it's not what you expected you're not stuck there for several nights, or out of money when you leave the next day. You can always pay for more nights the next morning if you like it. We are planning on going to Stone Mountain Park in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know how it is. Have fun.

Thanks jbeletti and charlie51 Im in north Ga mountians about 90 miles north of Atlanta. We have no kids so quit and peacefull is what we are looking for. I have been to Stone Mountian many times. Not camping but day trips and over night stays at the motel in the park. Its a great place. Thanks for the info and if you need info on any of the north ga state parks or others Ill try to give some info when I can. Ive been to most of them that have lakes or I have friends that have. I have a sickness called BASS FISHING its in my blood. The only way I can find releaf is going to water and fishing. Happy Camping!!!!!!!!!!

GetnBye, You can't say bass when you talk about Guntersville. You have to use the term Sowbelly's. They grow'em big over there. My dream trip I'm going on someday or when I get around Tuit is E'salto MX. They tell me you can buy a round Tuit in Gatlinburg at one of the shops.

Lakeview RV Park in Houston, Tx is very nice. And it is close to the Reliant Center, museum district, downtown, and many other sites. All concrete and fishing pond in the middle. Wait a minute is Houston considered the south.

Bozo,

I am sure you meant to say 700 miles not 7000 miles. If not it is only 4494 miles from Atlanta, Ga to Hawaii (Wiki) you jut need to find a way to get your coach there. That trip would make you a spelling bee winner and a LONGHAULER.

Best Holiday Travel Park Exit 1 at Tennessee/Georgia Border, Tellico Plains KOA, Ripplin Waters campground Seiverville. Just to name a few. RVparkreviews.com is a good site and the reviews are generally accurate.

If you like casino camping, the Coushatta Casino, Red Shoes RV Park, Kinder, La and the Paragon Casino RV Park in Marksville, La are great. Both offer 24 hour free shuttle to the casino, free wifi, and all the other good stuff. Both have concrete streets and sites, are well lighted and roving security. The Paragon is Passport America so you can get 50 percent off. Both will comp your stay if you gamble at the casino enough and are a rewards club member.

We RV very little in TN our home base. But almost any place in the Rio Grande valley, we prefer the Green Gate (55+) very clean and its secure. Raffords Crossing in Houston, TX. East of the Big Muddy Gulf Shores, Anchors Aweigh in Gulf Shores and Florida would be Destin. But it depends on what you are looking for. We very seldom use State Parks, we look for good streets and concrete pads. We are RVer's not campers and Love the West everything is BIG. Always look for 50 amps and full hook-ups. Buts its just a choce and everyone has one. GBY....

I also recommend rvparkreviews.com . I have found that you can't rely on just one or two good or bad reviews. Look for the trend, ie, most people say it's great or most people say it sucks. You can kind of get a good idea. I know that our #1 favorite campground (First Landing) has gotten several bad reviews. Most people love it though.

We are also in Georgia but about 45 miles south of Atlanta. We enjoy any of the GA State Parks. High Falls State Park has a fairly new camping area on the lower section of the falls. Indian Springs State Park has camping on their lake. FDR State Park has wonderful hiking trails. We enjoy camping at FDR State Park during the Christmas season because of the lights at Callaway Gardens. We usually camp there when the Atlanta Symphony is at Callaway in April. Reed Bingham State Park and Crooked River State Park are both great for kayaking. Florence Marina State Park is perfect for fishermen but didn't appeal to us! Vogel State Park is good for programs. We've enjoyed music and arts there. You can always count on the cleanliness of the State Park campgrounds. River's End Campground at Tybee Island is in a great location. The campground has improved so much in the last two years but believe the horror stories you read about the bathrooms! We enjoyed Stone Mountain Park campground because it is like a resort. You can purchase packages that include attraction tickets, wood, golf carts.... Kids have VBS programs duirng the summer. Movies, transportation within the park, and coffee/doughnuts mornings are included. We're off to West Point lake and a COE park this week. Like state parks, you can count on clean basic campsites at COE campgrounds.

Since you're near Atlanta, check out Lake Lanier. It was beautiful and the lake looked great for fishing, although we didn't get a chance to try it....
