Air Conditioner question

Our Air Conditioner is set to 72 and the fan is on auto. I notice the AC cycling on and off while the fan remains on. The 72 degree temp is not satisfied. Once the degree set is satisfied the AC and fan will go off together and then come back on when needed. However, the AC then cycles on and off again.
Any ideas?

Stevebotts,
You need to check a couple things. There is an ice buildup sensor on the face of the A/C coil about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the coil. It shuts the compressor down when the coil freezes up, and resets automatically when the A/C coil thaws back out. This can be caused by quite a few things, but the simplest items to check; 1) No restrictions to airflow - closed or blocked vents, dirty filter, etc., 2) leakage between the supply and return air., and 3) when it's hot and humid, make sure you're running the fan on high speed.

Beyond that you might need a service call to determine if your A/C is low on freon.

Hope that helps you.
