Broken latch repair on hot water access panel

This is a quick fix. The plastic latch that turns to lock the exterior access panel for the hot water tank broke on my Landmark. It appears to have just become brittle. It has to be fixed to hold the panel on while travelling so I took a small key chain ring the same size as the slotted panel opening and attached that to the spring and backer piece. It works like a charm and I am going to leave it just like that because it is easier to use.

Yep, another good use for a key ring. I have used them as replacement zipper tabs and repair links for small chains. I will store this in my memory for future use. Thanks. Now what were we talkin about???
