Heartland Volunteers in the Volunteer State

Hello Heartlanders rallying in Nashville,

Nashville wants you. Nashville needs you.

9181

If you plan to arrive in Nashville prior to Wednesday and if you want to help us show Nashville how big Heartlanders' hearts really are, please consider joining up to 35 Heartlanders in a volunteer effort in the Volunteer state.

Who: You - Heartlanders in Nashville not later than Tuesday
What: A volunteer activity that will benefit people in middle Tennessee
When: Wednesday, July 14, 9 am to 11 am, leaving the KOA at 8:15 am
Where: Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee [map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=2626+Music+Valley+Drive,+Nashville,+TN+37214 +%28KOA+%22Kampgrounds+Of+America+%26+KOA%27s+Benn ie+Goodman+Banquet+Hall%29&daddr=331+Great+Circle+Road,+Nashville,+TN+37228-1703+%28Second+Harvest+Food+Bank+of+Middle+Tenness ee%29&hl=en&geocode=FX_jKAIddfLU-iGFt-juLwfNcik1zECgjkJkiDHW09nAMUJtFw%3BFQRbKAIdP6HT-iGKGl4LJZMpPilRH6QvbWdkiDH3bvLPIhMRSQ&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=36.170752,-86.93566&sspn=0.666262,1.029968&ie=UTF8&z=13)]

Details:
We're looking to supply up to 35 (max) Heartlander who are able and willing to roll up their sleeves and volunteer a couple hours of their time at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee

We will primarily be sorting and repackaging food items in the warehouse of the food bank.

We will be caravanning in our own vehicles to and from the food bank for this volunteer activity.

We are looking for a coordinator for this event. See details of what we are looking for in a coordinator on the Rally Volunteer Opportunity thread [link (//heartlandowners.org/showthread.php/15773-Rally-Volunteer-Opportunities)]

For everyone at the rally, in addition to volunteering our time on Wednesday, we are holding a Food Drive at the KOA for the entire week of the rally. I have set our goal of collecting 250 food items. And if the food drive results at our recent Wisconsin State Rally was any indicator of the “Heart of Heartland Owners”, we’ll shatter the Nashville goal”.

Several attachments have been added to this thread:

General Volunteer Information
Policies and Dress Code

Volunteer agreement to review, fill-in, print, sign and give to the coordinator the by 8am Wednesday
What to Expect as a Volunteer

Nashville thanks you Heartlanders!

Hey.....Sign both of us up to assist, but dependent on warehouse conditions, my bride's asthma :( may not allow her to hang with us very long. Unless, that is, Vince Gill will be there. :D If he isn't, I guess I'll just have to work twice as hard.
Bummer!

Jim, are we going to collect items at the rally? Who is going to be in charge of that? Jim and I can help with the collected food....since we won't be getting in until Wednesday and missing the work at the warehouse...but we can help at the other end. We will need to get boxes for folks to put their donations in.

If you still need volunteers Ann and I are more than willing to help. I am limited for the next few weeks to only being able to pick up 15 lbs due to my neck surgery but I can pick up one food item at a time.

See Ya at the Rally,

Hey folks,

Thank you, thank you! We have all the volunteers we need for the Food Bank food sorting project on Wednesday morning. We also have 10 alternates.

Kimball and Alice Gillette are the volunteer coordinators for this event and she will let the Alternates know if they are needed. For the 10 alternates we have now, thank you! Please assume you will not be needed unless you hear from the Gillettes.

The Food Bank is not setup to handle more than 35 volunteers.

I would like perhaps Alternates 1 and 2 to go with the group in the event that:

Someone needs to take a break
Someone takes ill
Someone gets hurt (heaven forbid)

I'd also like Alternates 1 and 2 to snap some pictures of the group doing their work, then get those pictures to our Rally Photo Coordinator, Duane Clause (porthole) and Duane will select from among them to put on the Rally album on the Heartland Owners Gallery.

Thanks everyone.

Hey Cheryl - you know you don't have to ask me twice :) You're hired as the On-site (KOA) Food Drive Coordinator. I'll be in touch via email. Thank you!

Kimball and Alice Gillette have done a great job making personal on-site contact here at the KOA with everyone they could find that had signed up as volunteers for the Food Bank in the morning.

Thank you Gillettes and thank you volunteers. Travel safe to the Food Bank, work hard and safe. Enjoy your experience.

Hey guys - here's a video posted by Jenn Stott, Manager at the Nashville KOA. It's all the volunteers heading out of the KOA on their way to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

Thank you all for volunteering your time to Nashville and for showing your Heartland hearts.

The statistics. 6 Fords, 6 Dodges and 1 Chevy. We went earlier so that would have made 2 Chevys. What does this prove? I have absolutely no idea. Just food for fodder.

truknutt
07-26-2010, 10:44 AM
Strangely reminded me of riding in my old FIAT wagon in Italy; except for the exhaust brake! I tried to duck down but there wasn't alot of leg room to work with!!

I don't really like to start anything (yeah right) but it looks to me like it takes 6 Fords and 6 Dodges to do the work of 1 Chevy.

truknutt

Now, now. We were all doubled up so there were probably some GM owners incognito, wanting to ensure they arrived at the Food Bank so they hitched rides with the Fords or ugh, the Dodges. I think they had prior clandestine knowledge of the video to be taken and didn't want to be seen in their bowties.

BTW, had I not lost the "rock, paper, scissors" contest there would have been 1 more Ford and 1 less ugh, Dodge! Wait a minute, at 3.069 a gallon for diesel maybe I did win!!!!

I'm done!!
