Our Bighorn is finished!

This is the week our Big horn is to be finished. Our dealer emailed early in the week to say it would be done in the next few days, than of course needed to be brought to NY. He would let us know. For the past 6 weeks I have been reading posts, most everyone has had great experiences but a few have had nightmare experiances. Today I was reading about land gear not working, many bolts being left out of the slides, cabinets poorly installed and now his TV not working. Thiers is a Big Country. I hope this is the exception rather than the rule. We expect some bugs that will need to be worked out but not major malfunctions. I also realize all brands have some problems. Crossing my fingers and hoping we don't experience any major problems.

I have been so excited about our decision to order a unit the way we want it, now that it is almost time to receive it I am stressing about will everything be all that we expect.

Congratulations on your new unit. Don't get stressed out. Just keep being excited about the new unit. For sure there will be some bugs to get worked out. Just stay calm work with your dealer and Heartland and they will take care of you. I had a new unit with some issues and everything got worked out. Heartland is very good about that. So much so that I just ordered a new unit.

We have a 2011 BigHorn 3610 and have very, very few issues with it. We have been traveling since we bought it in April and are happy with the unit.

Re: Wondering if our Bighorn is finished

Thank You for your reassurance and glad you had no major issues. I just got a email from our dealer than it is done and he has arranged for shipment to NY. He plans to keep it about three day getting it prepped and checked out. Barring no major issues I would think we can be in it by next weekend. They offered to deliver it to our campsite, origanally we said no we would pick it up but think we have reconsidered and will take them up on that. Sunday we will be getting everything packed up for the move. We have been in this one 10 years and I am attached to it, but it is time to move on. I am excited about having a real bathroom, lots of counter space and a three burner stove. I have the old 4 burner that takes forever to boil a pot of water.

Just don't be so excited to get it on the road that you neglect to do a thorough PDI of your own before you leave the dealership. Armed with all you've gleaned from this forum, you should want to crawl over, under, around, and through the rig with their service tech at your elbow.

Re: Wondering if our Bighorn is finished

Bill and Barbara,

Consider having one of you video tape the PDI that you do. Especially capturing anything the walk-through tech is telling you. You be so euphoric that it will be easy to forget what you were told. Fortunately, this is not your first rodeo, so the biggest things to keep in mind are the differences in items and operation of this RV versus the other(s) you've owned.

Have fun!

Supernan1414...would this be Wilkins RV in Bath? We're there right now waiting for repairs from a blowout on our Bighorn...

Oh, and by the way, we've been living in our Bighorn for three years...with regular maintenance and inspection, it's held up beautifully!!!

Re: Wondering if our Bighorn is finished

kakampers, no we bought ours at Oliver's in Norwich, NY but we did go out to Wilkin's before we placed our order because they had the floor plan we wanted on the lot and I needed to see if the bedroom was going to work for us. It is about 150 miles from our home, Oliver's is about 20 and on the way to our seasonal site. My husband and I spent the night in Bath last Wed. evening at the Super 8. We escort oversized trucks a few days a week and picked up a truck at one of the truckstops Thursday morning. We brought that to Syracuse, NY 20 miles from our campsite and then spent the weekend.

Thank you for your reply and so glad you have not experienced any major issues. We do take care of our stuff and Bill always stays on top of regular maintenance.

Re: Wondering if our Bighorn is finished

Hi Bill & Barbara,

Took delivery of our 2011 Bighorn 3670 on April 22, 2010. After spending about 3 of its 1st 12 weeks at the dealer, I think we have tweaked every bug out of it. Main issue was the 4 door Dometic fridge.Replaced it with new one and had the same problem of not cooling. After reading the threads on this website tech and I got on a conference call with Dometic and Heartland and solved the problem by installing a baffle behind fridge to direct airflow over coils before exiting the compartment. Knock-on-wood... working fine now. We have to pinch ourselves daily to convince ourselves that we own such a "TAJ MAHAL" if you will. We love it and hope to spend many hours, miles and years enjoying it.

P.S. Thanks: Al from Dometic, Eric from Heartland and last but not least "COUNTRY" from Kent Mitchell RV in Hammond, LA for taking care of our issues for us. Steve A. Dagro

Re: Wondering if our Bighorn is finished

The Big Horn arrived last week, we packed up all our stuff this week end, pulled the old fifth wheel off our site yesterday. We are picking up the Big Horn tomorrow. Bill got to look inside when he got there yesterday and it has a 42 inch TV on the wall. We only expected a 32 inch. He is really happy about that. Thank You all for your responses, the wait is now over.

Re: Wondering if our Bighorn is finished

Dealer called today and pushed out the pickup till the following day because the water heater and furnace are not working. One of the owners who is suppose to be able to fix anything is at a convention and will be back Thursday morning and will get right on it. I am glad they are checking out everything before we pick it up. There is a sticker on it inspected ready to ship. That puzzles us as the furnace would be something that would have been inspected I would think. Any way now we start with getting the bugs worked out of it.

Re: Wondering if our Bighorn is finished

Because we do not ship units with propane in the tanks, I am not certain that we test the furnace and W/H for operation. I do know the propane system gets a pressure/leak test.

Dealers add propane to the tanks and then tests the furnace, stove, oven and water heater as part of their PDI (theoretically). Sounds like you have a great dealer who is really being thorough.

Re: Wondering if our Bighorn is finished

WE HAVE OUR BIG HORN. Picked it up Thursday at 4:00PM. Had it on our site by 7:00 PM. Everything is working, Jim from Oliver's figured out the problem with the electric hot water and furnace. Used the furnace this morning, nice and quiet. Thought we might have a problem with refrigerator but that seems to have taken care of itself. Reading 38 degrees now. We hooked up the satellite yesterday though the camper connection. Both over the air and satellite working great, surround sound working. Oliver's kept it a full week, checked and tighten everything. This unit is beautiful, everything we hoped it would be. This forum is a wealth of information and support, it helped during the wait. Thanks again.

We are going to the NY first Rally for the pot luck supper, our camper is on a site about 10 mile from the rally site.

That's great news Bill and Barbara! I changed the title of your thread to "Our Bighorn is finished!".

Sounds like your dealer did a super job for you. Please pass the word onto others that may be contemplating a Heartland RV in that area.

I just had a very nice online chat (Comet chat at the bottom of each forum screen by the way) with Beth, 1/2 of your NY Chapter Leadership team (Greg and Beth Dean aka freckles and freckles-girl). Their rally sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun. Wish I could make it. You'll have a great time. And anything you have a question on your new RV about, there will be plenty of seasoned Heartland owners there to show you their hearts, make you feel welcome and answer your questions.

Have fun!
