Ingredients

Filling Base Ingredients
  • 1 package (8 ounces) - Cream Cheese
  • ½ teaspoon - Vanilla Extract
  • ¼ cup - Powdered Sugar
  • ¼ cup - Heavy (whipping) Cream
  • 1 loaf - Wide French or Italian Bread
Filling Optional Ingredients - Idea 1
  • ¼ cup - Chopped Walnuts
  • 1 cup - Pineapple Tidbits
Filling Optional Ingredients - Idea 2
  • ½ cup - Chopped Fresh Strawberries
  • ½ cup - Chopped Bananas
Egg Wash Ingredients
  • 5 whole eggs
  • ½ cup Heavy (whipping) Cream
  • ½ teaspoon - Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon - Ground Cinnamon
Cooking Fat
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine

Preparation Instructions

  • Using an electric hand mixer or a stand mixer, in a bowl, beat first 5 Filling Base ingredients together until blended smooth
  • Using a large spoon or rubber spatula, gently mix in optional filling ingredients
  • Cut both ends off the loaf of bread
  • Cut loaf of bread into 1" wide slices
  • Using a paring knife, cut a deep slit or pocket into each slice of bread
  • Spoon 1 heaping tablespoon of filling into the pocket of each bread slice
  • Flatten bread slice down if there's a hump in it from the filling
  • Using an electric hand mixer or a stand mixer, in a bowl, beat all 5 Egg Wash ingredients together until blended smooth
  • In a large frying pan, a cooking griddle or electric skillet, melt 1/2 Cooking Fat and heat to medium
  • Dip stuffed bread slices into Egg Wash mixture on both sides and place into pan or griddle. Do this with half the bread slices
  • Slowly cook bread until it is browned nicely, flip each slice and cook the other side until it too is browned nicely
  • Place cooked bread slices in an uncovered dish in a 200 degree oven to hold warm
  • Repeat last 4 steps for the rest of your bread slices and serve with your favorite toppings (butter, syrup, jelly etc.)

Tips

Cook slowly in order to prevent burning and to ensure stuffing mixture warms through

Experiment with other fruits and mix-ins. How about Bananas and Chocolate Chips?
