Creating dividers on shelf in closet

My wife would like me to put up dividers on the long shelf in the closet of our 3055. It would be easy enough to put up pieces of some kind of 1/4 material - attached to some kind of "ledger" (1X3 or 1X2) and screw that to the top of the shelf. Another possibility might be the white "wire-type" material that you see as shelving etc. in closets.

But I think that there no doubt are better ideas so I am asking for input.

What have you done?

I have 4 white Sterlite baskets up there that fit the shelf perfectly. Still leaves room at one end for any "extra's, but keeps the clothes separated and easy to take out and put away. Jeans in one, sweaters in another, etc, etc. The baskets are the type with the round holes in them and a gray label. They fit behind the lip on the shelf, so they don't move when traveling. Very easy when we do laundry as well as you can take them down.
