Albuquerque Campgrounds

We stayed one night at High Desert RV park. A little less frills and lower cost than others in the area, but good for an overnight. (except for the pole that jumped out and embedded itself in the side of our rig.)

We live just outside of Albuquerque and have stayed at 2 RV parks. American RV off I-40 on the west side of Albuquerque is really nice. We stayed there for a couple of nights when we first bought our Cyclone to "try it out." Nice paved roads and spots and a free breakfast. The other one we stayed at was the KOA also off I-40 on the east side of Albuquerque. We lived there for 6 weeks while our house was being built. It is OK, paved roads with decent restrooms, no cable. One of the better KOA's we've stayed at. There are 2 RV parks in Bernalillo which is a small community north of Albuquerque. Another KOA and Stagecoach Stop RV I think. I hear the latter is pretty nice too.

High Desert is a nice park. It is across the highway from Enchanted Trails. Enchanted Trails is a large area with a lot of gravel and it is pretty cheap. If you want a nice park try American RV Park and it is about $35 per night.

Here is a link to RV Park Reviews you might want to read about the area parks.

We stayed at Enchanted Trails 2 years ago. It was nice for a couple of nights. It is gravel and the staff treated us well. It is a large park and there is a Camping World just down the street. Price was reasonable.

It certainly depends on what features you desire in a campground:

1)The Stagecoach Stop: http://www.stagecoachstoprv.com/ runs $35/$40/night and is on the North West side of Albuquerque, you actually access through the small town of Bernalillo off of I25 on Hwy 550 to Hwy 528. It is about 1/2 mile to a super Walmart, but not much else is close by in terms of commercial infrastructure. Some sites with nice views of Sandia mountains. The $40 sites have artificial grass under the picnic table.

2)Nearer to I25, but not right on the Interstate, is the KOA North, also in Bernalillo. Typical KOA with cable, internet, pool, pancake breakfast (included), and access to fast food restaurants with a couple of miles. The closest grocery store is the super Walmart described above. The KOA is about 15 minutes to the North side of Albuquerque and all the eateries and shopping one can stand.

3)American RV and Enchanted RV are across the interstate (I40) from each other. The High Desert is almost adjacent to American RV. All three are located on the West-side outskirts of Albuquerque and about 10-15 minutes from the I25, I40, junction, the physical heart of Albuquerque. Grocery shopping is located on Central Ave (old Route 66), about 5-7 miles. American RV has paved access, cable, pool, and a pretty nice breakfast (included). They also have a section normally used by larger rigs with satellite access requirements (unobstructed by trees, etc.). The pool and facilities are very clean, oh, and free popcorn! High Desert and Enchanted are gravel access. Enchanted is very retro in style (Route 66ish) and I seem to recall the pool is very small and shade was limited. Enchanted, to me, is very basic camping and, if you're not going to be in and around the rig for extended periods, it should do just fine. High Desert is also gravel and they have a nice clubhouse (small, but nice and clean) for shooting pool or relaxing. The picnic tables needed serious attention earlier this spring, the wood slats looked like they got them from old oak barrels as they were curled rather severally.

All three of these campgrounds are within spitting distance of a Camping World, if that means anything to you.

4)There is also a KOA on the East side of Albuquerque. This campground backs up against I40. I don't have much detail on this KOA but the location is close to RV dealer zone and there is quite a few dealers within a couple of miles.

5)There is a campground called the Coronado Campground, also located in Bernalillo: http://www.townofbernalillo.org/depts/campground.htm I believe this is operated, or leased from, a native tribe in the area. It backs up to the Rio Grande river is about all I know about this place, except they only offer camping; no pool, cable, etc.

As with any information on the forum, do your own homework, check reviews, and...I hope this helps.

We have stayed at enchanted trails last year and the gravel was so deep I almost had to put the truck in 4wd just to drive down the roads. taking the dogs for a walk was hard on the ankles. The sites are opposing pull-thrus and the trailer next us was so close that we could not extend the entertainment center slide.

We also stayed at the North KOA and it is dated but quaint. site was just large enough to work but at least we could use all the slides. free pancake breakfast too.

We stayed at the KOA mentioned here that backs up to I-40. We stayed there because it was close to my mother in law's place. We really liked it. They put us in an electric and water site, no sewer, since those were all booked due to the fair. We really liked our site. It was level. The dog walk area in the front was very nice - long and grassy with plenty of room for the dogs to run. The dog walk area in the back was just dirt and it smelled pretty bad. It was kept clean but the smell still was bad. There is no cable, but antenna reception was outstanding and we got several stations. If we go back there again, I'd stay in the same place.

The Stage Coach Stop RV park looks like a nice place to stay. We will be staying just one night in July on our way to California.
Thanks for the post.

If you just need a place to stay the night on your way to somewhere else, there is a state travelers rest area on I-40 east of town that is very large and has an area behind it designated for RVs. Paved, roomy and has picnic tables with covered roofs. Worked great for us. (No hook ups)

We stayed at Stagecoach Rv park in Bernalillo. It was very clean, hot tub, pool (too cold when we were there). You can walk to Wal Mart. Great views of the mountains. The raods are a little narrow, so be careful, all are paved roads. They had wifi and cable and a nice lounge/library area.
