Eureka! Works great, but won't stop working.

Our Eureka Yellow Jacket vacuum developed a problem after the 4th or 5th use. After using it, we unplugged the hose, which normally turns off the vacuum. We had to turn it off using the breaker. I checked both hose connx and found the switch circuit to be open. Shorting the switch had no effect. I also checked the floor "dust pan" switch. It was O.K. I cut the wiring harness from both connx/switches to the leads from the vacuum...no luck. The unit runs if the breaker is on.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there a fix, other than replacing the vacuum unit? Thanks.

If the switches on the intake ports are functioning properly, as you say, then you may have a short inside the vacuum housing. Unplug the unit and open up the housing and check the wiring. If you see any blackening, discoloration, or melted insulation, you've found the problem.

Does your Cyclone have a vacuum port in the basement? Did you check there?
If you have not already, try disconecting the wires at the vacuum itself.
