Rear End Oil

I've been told that the gear oil that comes stock in Dodge pickups is not adequate for tow vehicles, can anyone comment? What is the correct oil?

You will have to check your manual to see what viscosity oil to use in your truck. I know that most manufacturers are now recomending synthetic. Since you are probably towing a fiver I would recommend using Amsoil severe gear lube. It will be more expensive than the standard oils but it will stand up to the harder work that we put on the rear end while towing. You can order online or find a distributor near where you live.

Ford is putting in synthetic oil in rear end, t-case and tranny. Why the front diff doesn/t warrant it I don't know.

I believe this is coming from the comment about the stock rear have been running hot during heavy towing. There is a lot of talk about the NV5600 Tranny also running hot when towing in 6th gear. A lot recommend switching to 75w-140 in the rear to help with this issue.
