It is about 50-75 miles away (to the east) but Mill Creek Ranch RV Park in Canton, Tx is great. MCR is 1 block south of Interstate 20 about 35 miles east of Dallas on Texas 19 in Canton, TX. There are several other RV Parks in the area as well. Enjoy your visit.

Jim G,

Let me clarify... Canton is about 75 miles from Allen, and takes at least an hour and a half on a Sunday morning. Any other time, I'd say more like 2 hours or more, since you'd probably have to go around the outskirts of Dallas to get back and forth (using interstates), and traffic just isn't fun. On the flip side, Mill Creek Ranch is a really nice place.

Regarding the other choices, I have not stayed at any of them. Lafons is probably the easiest access... I'd stay away from Sandy Lake, that is an area of town that's seen better days... And I-35 is not fun to drive on, either. If you plan to be going back and forth a lot, pick the closest one.

Hope this helps!

Gosh, sounds to me like you could stay in Oklahoma at one of the casinos and go back and forth quicker. Oh well, it ain't nothing but a drive.

Ha ha, Jim G, you might be right! Traffic in and around DFW, even for me native born and lived all my life here, I'd avoid it if I could. Took me an hour to go 21 miles Friday at 4:30pm.

Jim,

Two places I have stayed at in the Dallas area are The Vineyards in Grapevie and Plantation Place in Dallas. Plantation Place would be closer to 75 to get to Allen. On the other hand The Vineyards has recently been updated and really a nice park. It sits right on Lake Grapevine and you could take 121 to get Allen.

Mike, the Vinyards is nice, have stayed there. Its about 35 miles southwest of Allen. Note: i believe parts of 121 are now a tollway. Milage is deceptive though in the DFW area thanks to traffic, it will probably take 45 minutes or more. :-(

Not sure how long your going to be there, but we stayed at the COE campground North of Lewisville, it was really nice, down side was no sewer hookup, if memory serves me right I want to say Hickory Creek.

Re: RV at Big Bend

There is a campground inside the park about 23 miles east of Panther Junction, it is a full hookup site and is just a parking lot campground. It is good for day trips and such. Nothing special but will do. You can watch the Road Runners and Javelinas (sp) at night.

Don't know if you have traveled to West Texas before. If you have not be aware the fueling facilities are few and FAR between. I mean it is not unusual to have to travel 75 miles between fuel facilities so keep your tank at least 1/2 full or more. We like the Davis Mountains State Park in Ft. Davis. It is a ways from Big Bend National Park but has some great facilities and interesting sights to see. The McDonald Observatory is close to there too.
