Recaulking roof seams

Here's a question. If you're going to recaulk all of the roof seams with self-leveling caulk, like Dicor's, do you first need to remove all of the old caulk? I was reading an article in the Good Sam magazine about that, and they recommended to the writer to use a heat gun (carefully) and a plastic scraper to clean off the old caulk first. And that it was labor intensive.

What have any of you done, if you've recaulked your roofs?

I have done both. It is difficult to remove the old caulk and seems to work best doing that.

Also make sure the area that you will apply the new caulk to is good and clean. Otherwise you may be wasting your time.

Most RV dealers who have a good selection of RV supplies carry Etenabond tape. Camping World does as does Lone Star RV in Houston. You can mail order it. It is a good product but be sure the surface is clean and dry when applying. Also it is a bi... to take off.

Most of the well-stocked dealers carry Eternabond products. If you cannot find it anywhere else try going online to Camping World and ordering it there.
