It would be nice if a door in the basement wall had been added to allow access to the hot water bypass valves. or bringing the valves into the contol centre??

It's simple enough to make a removeable access panel in the basement wall. All you need is a hand-held jigsaw, some 1/2" plywood (Baltic Birch preferred), a staple gun and some screws. Painting is optional.

OK, so it isn't just a matter of turning a valve but 4 screws and your into the water heater area, the only time I get back there is during winterizing and de-winterizing, so removing the 4 screws is no big deal for me. you cut an access panel with a hinge to make it really easy I guess
