Just heard about this. So sad for the loss of life but you are right -it could have been a lot worse.
I was on the with a guy called "The Awning Man' who services all the campgrounds there. His son, who was working with him at the time and is on the MB fire dept. got the call and was heading up there.

At first I thought plane, then looked again...said Plan...thought what plan? Then I thought some more...and you mean PLANE! Oh my!! I will have to ask my son...he's in Myrtle going to school....maybe it will be on the news tonight?

The article said he was doing touch and goes...my son lives right by the airport and didn't know anything until I told him about it... ya, saw that Montana...

We camp in that campground all tha time when we stop in Myrtle Beach
