Campground/travel recommendations

I am trying to plan our "Rally" trip and need some help/advice on routes, campgrounds, etc....

Leaving Shreveport, Louisiana on Saturday, May 26th ..... headed up towards the Fairgrounds in Indiana for Wednesday, May 30th.
Keeping in mind that the weekend is a holiday weekend, I thought I had better get on the ball and see if I can "reserve" a few nights somewhere along the way ..... Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana .....

If there are any good places or interesting sites that anyone can recommend between me (NW Louisiana) and Indiana, please feel free to make suggestions. This small time frame is pretty open for us and we are trying to decide what to do with it and which route to take.

After leaving the Rally on Sunday, we will head to Algonac State Park in Michigan to visit my family (they suggested it, only 20 minutes from them) for a few days and head back home from there.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions .... about anything to do with the trip! Looking forward to finally meeting everyone! :D

If you're coming up I-75 in Renfro Valley KY at the music park, is a nice campground. If you only want to stop for the night and move on. In London KY there is a place across the bridge on the left behind a motel, for overnighters. I saw it on my way up the access road to the crackerbarrel. It's level as a pancake and right off the interstate. If you get off I-75 @ London and bear right and stay on that blvd there is a Super Wally World to stay. Just my 2 cents worth.

We just returned home after 4 months (Mar 6) and many campgrounds. The one park that we were real disappointed in was Southern Leisure at Many, Louisana. Most of the sites are on a hillside, very unlevel. We had to buy a second set of leveling blocks. We thought it needed a lot of TLC. I don't believe the bathrooms were cleaned the whole week we were there. There was also lots of mold in the bathroom.
On the other hand we stayed in many nice ones. Abita Springs RV Resort was very nice, as well as Low Hi RV Park in Deming, NM. The park in Brady, Texas had no bathrooms, showers, etc. just a spot to park. However it was in town and close to things. We did find that they have a very nice city park with hookups as well as a nice park out at Brady Lake which is about 4 miles from town.
Just another side note we had to have our cat, Muffin 16 1/2 years old, put down while gone. She had a stroke, it was a very sad time for us. :( However if you ever need an animal clinic to go to the one in Tucson was great. It was the "Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson". They were very caring and all the people we dealt with were wonderful.

Hi Midastouch
I know that there is a really nice park at the Racoon Valley exit off I-75. It is about a mile west. There is a park just off the exit called Volunteer Park, stayed there once, the sights are tight but the people are real nice and friendly. It is also wooded if you like trees. I would offer to let you stay on my property but we will be heading west at that time. We have to go th Ok. for our grandson who will be in the Special Olympics, can't miss that. Hope everyone enjoys the rally, maybe the wife and I can make it next year. Had to cancel last year due to my Mother.

Thanks for those suggestions ... I'm trying to decide which way to head!

We had thought about Branson, MO .... Anyone have any experiences related to this area? I'd really like to spend a day or two somewhere and see some things and Branson seems to be a good spot to hang out!!!????

The only negative about that is the congestion, etc.... kind of makes me think about what Pidgeon Forge/Gatlinburg area was like when we went to Tennessee to pick up the GC in September!

Maybe a little bit of Kentucky bluegrass scenery would be nice!!!!
I guess I'm hoping someone will convince me to head a certain way and hang out in an unforgetable relaxing spot for a few days before the rally.;)

Thanks!

A big P.S. The state park at Algonac is really nice. You will enjoy it. My brother who lives just outside Detroit goes there several times a year. Make reservations they can get busy at that time of the year.

fireflipper ...

I got my reservations made for 3 nights in a real nice site on the waterfront area in Algonac. My Dad lives in Clinton Twp. and a neighbor recommended that place because they stay there alot. It looks nice and I'll be able to spend some time with my family before we head back. (I was raised in that area, but headed south and have been gone since 77) Haven't seen my family in 2 years.

If you go to Pigeon Forge give Creekside RV Park a try.........great park and convenient to everything. We are headed there next week for a few days to corral the grand kids as the proud parents can have a spring break from St. Louis. Wish us luck!!!

You're right! Creekside was a great place .... we stayed there after picking up the coach from Rv's for Less, as they had it all set up for us! I think we are going to try a different area to stop in this go around ... if we go back through there, that would be the place to stay.

HAVE A GREAT TIME WITH THE GRANDKIDS!!!!!! :D

If coming up I-75 through Kentucky try Kentucky Horse Park. Nothng real fancy, right price, friendly staff, nice scenery (Kentucky bluegrass scenery) and and only a couple of miles from I-75.

If you are into shows, then you would enjoy Branson. We're not "show people" and didn't care for it. There is A LOT of constant traffic.

Cheryl ...

I feel pretty much the same ... not too much into the shows but like to walk around and take in the sites. Don't like that traffic/congestion, but would like to hang out for a day or so in one place and maybe explore some areas in the truck during the day ... little towns, etc...

I guess when you're taking a vacation, the first thing that comes to mind is the "tourist" areas, but once you get there ... it's really too much! We are more into the layed back and relaxed atmosphere ... it sounds like I am getting this narrowed down some now!

We have really enjoyed the state parks and corp of engineers areas in wooded settings near water, etc.....
