We signed up for two free nights at the Richmond RV show for the Gettysburg Battlefield Resort. Planning a trip up that way towards the end of May, has anyone been there before? Good recomendation or a place to stay away from.

Just wondering.

Take the National Park Service Guided Bus Tour. You'll get much more out of it than the self guided auto tour. We had a great guide on our tour and we learned things we wouldn't have otherwise known! Well worth it!

Sorry handva - we stayed at Gettysburg Campground, not Gettysburg Battlefield Resort. I would recommended Gettysburg Campground to anyone. Nice place. Good luck.

Been there several times and probably should have done the tour but didn't, I enjoyed taking a few hrs. early morning and driving the battlefield and stopping to see the monuments and reading them. Make sure to see the area where the 20th Maine defended the left flank and drive into the Devils Den and walk around.
I'd also suggest stopping where Pickett's charge began and be in awe of how those men walked across that field into the fire power that was laid on them.
Be sure and go to the new Visitor's Center and see the Cyclorama of the Battlefield, very impressive.

GBR has been our home park since the mid-nineties...it is one of the best parks we've ever been to, and it's smack in the middle of the Gettysburg Battlefield. There is so much to do and see, you won't believe it. If it we're listed in Trailer Life or Woodalls, it would be a 5 Star Resort..bar none!!

The only issue we've found, especially being fulltimers, during the summer months the weekends are FULLY booked...when we stay for two-three weeks we look forward to the quieter weekdays. There are lots of activities for the family and many, many kids!! They have the largest swimming pool we've ever seen and one of the best managed staffs anywhere...don't think you'll be disappointed. Not to mention the beautiful PRIVATE bathrooms...each unit in the bath house is an individual private bathroom...just like home!!

Thanks for this thread. I may alter my trip because of it. Thinking of heading to Gettysburg after the Eastern Regional Rally in Cherokee, NC. Then from Gettysburg to the VA rally in Williamsburg. That's the current thinking anyway.

I just got off the phone with GBR to make a reservation and to take a "please buy our membership" tour. Found out that they do not schedule out more then one month. Also the guy on the phone was more intersted in getting us up there to take the tour instead of helping us with the camping part. I know sales is his job, but not the way to sell more.

Going to take Nabo's advise and look at Gettysburg Campground.

handva - I don't think you will be disappointed with Gettysburg Campground. The campground website is www.gettysburgcampground.com. It's on the edge of the Battlegrounds and just a couple of miles from downtown. FYI - moving around downtown Gettysburg with a dually is very tight. It's a great walking town but has narrow roads. We also like that there is a DC tour bus that comes into the campground if you want to do a Washington tour. Would highly recommend the tour. If you have any questions, please PM me.

As a side note...G-burg is up for getting a gambling license...the decision is to be made tomorrow (Thurs)...there is one more state license to be had and G-burg is in the running. The majority of residents want it for the economy boost...others don't want a casino so close to the battlefield... I think they are planning to put it up on Rt 30... I will keep you posted as I hear...

PA trip change. On to Dutch Country.

Our schedule has changed again. My wife was able to get an extra day off for our trip. We are going to take in Amish Country while in PA. Staying at Old Mill Stream Campground next to Dutch Wonderland.
If anyone is going to Lancaster I would recommend Old Mill. Right off Rt 30 but away from the highway enough to be quiet. We take an annual family trip there every August.
