Sun Valley RV - Morden, Manitoba

 While traveling across the border, we had an unexpected and unexplainable need for an emergency repair.

The cable from our Big Horn hitch that plugs into the truck to provide lights, flashers, BRAKES!, etc. was completely ripped apart with all of the wires hanging onto the ground. I was alerted to the damage by the sound of the slider relays clicking when I got out of the truck at our first stop after crossing the border.

We have no idea where or when or why this happened as everything was fine when we stopped at the border for a quick search and then drove straight on for another 50 miles or so without any funny maneuvers or extreme turns that might have ripped it apart.

Anyway, we were on a detour because of the flooding around Winnipeg and someone at the "Wally World" in Winkler directed us to Sun Valley RV in nearby Morden. We gave them a call at 4:40 pm and the Service Manager, George Doell, was willing to ask his techs for a volunteer to stay late to help get us back on the road.

The cable was repaired, but the repair shortened the cable enough that it would no longer reach the plug-in on the rear bumper. No worries. George worked out their busy schedule for the next day so that his tech could make the modification to our truck and move the plug-in to the inner wall of the truck bed.

This was a mod that the original dealer had said would be done when they installed our hitch, but it never got done. It would have saved us two repairs to this cable if it had been done at that point as this is the second time that we've had to replace that plug end.

The first time was on our maiden voyage when a heavy rubber bedliner was ripped from the truck bed by high winds. As it flew out, it pulled the cable from the plug leaving it dragging on the ground for about 100 miles. Needless to say, it was half gone when we stopped to get gas.

Anyway, Sun Valley charged us a reasonable price for both the repair and the modification and treated us in a very friendly and accommodating manner. We were very blessed to have been detoured around Winnipeg in their direction!

Hi SueJean. Sun Valley is where we purchased our Kokanee M-22, which is a Canadian version of the Edge M-22. The purchase process with Andy was a breeze. He quoted us a fair price, eliminating any need for "dickering and bargaining", and all the additional items that we asked to be installed on the trailer were done at a fair price. Sun Valley's service manager, George, is as down to earth and honest as they come. I'm sure that you will agree that he is the type of fellow that we all wish we could deal with during and emergency far from home. Your story is a great example of a basic business 101 - You can spend a thousand dollars on advertising, or you can make one customer happy.
