Adding a couple of inches to a 4012

Looking to purchase a new Cyclone 4012 I have been told that my bed rail height can not be more than 61" My new Dodge Cummins Mega Cab has been lifted 6" with a 37 inch tire. When the air bags are competly empty I am still at 63" is there a way to lift this trailer a couple of inches? If anyone can give me the lug pattern on this trailer that would be great, also any advice for this truck and trailer combo would help.

Charlie,
I can tell you right now there is no way you can pull a 4012 with your truck. I have a 3795 and I can not pull it with my F-350 with a 9 ft service body on it. Because the top of the bed is 62 inch high from ground to top of bed. When the truck shifts up and down left or right it will hit the under side of the trailer. You need at least 10 inchs between the top of the bed and under side of trailer. That is even more true on the toyhaulers seeing how you are likely to go off road like a field or dirt road ect. With that said also you said you have a Dodge Mega Cab. If it is not a Dually than your truck is to small to pull a 4012. We pull our 3795 with a 2006 Ford F-350 DRW 4x4,Tow package,4:30 rear and it is max out with our trailer. The trailer alone weighs in at 12300 lbs empty. The whole rig truck, trailer, two harleys, camping gear ( not that much gear),two adults, two kids, dog, cat,no water,2 full LPs,food, clothing, it weighed in on the ceritfied scales @ 24,426lbs The 4012 is bigger than the 3795 and the empty weight is more. A F-350 4 door tow boss max 5th wheel towing weigh is 18100 lbs,450 is 21,000 lbs,550 is 24000 lbs. I have been driving big trucks for many years (Fire trucks and tractor trailers) there is no way I would pull one of these rigs with less than a daully! With a lift kit it would be even worse!

Charlie,
In addition to being overweight, you should consider your tire size. With 37" tires, your fuel economy will go down the tube and your tranny will not be happy in 6th. A friend did the same with a GMC Duramax Allison 6 sp, he spends a lot of time in 5th and gets about 7.5 mpg.

Charlie,
I also have a 3795 that I towed with a 05 crew cab longbed duramax that was lifted 6 inches with 35's. It did pull allright except at highway speeds or canyon roads.( 90% )
The triple axle wants to push straight and the large tire sidewall wants to sway, Not a good combo, I now have a 06' duramax crewcab DUALLY that is stock height. I have pulled the 4012, and it is alot heavier than the 3795.
THINK SAFE. lifted trucks are not for large trailers.

Charlie-
I Can tell you that one of the features of the Cyclone unit that many people may not know is that it offers adjustable shackles. The shackles can be adjusted up to about 6" raising the entire unit. This is something we offer over the competition.

So cyclone 1 you are telling me that all cyclone trailers are capable of 6" of lift without any modifications other that adjusting the shackles? I was on my way out the door to purchase a tounge pull trailer from Raptor so I need an answer asap please. I am sure I am still over weight with the 4012 but I would still be interested in a smaller cyclone if this is the case!!!

Hi Charlie,

Yes, new users are part of the 'Registered Users - Moderated' user group. Then there is a promotion process attached to that group. The user's first two posts go into a moderation queue. Myself or our Mod, jpmorgan37 (John) must review and validate those posts.

Once those first 2 posts are validated, the user is auto-promoted to the 'Registered Users - Unmoderated' user group.

The reason we do this is that a while back, we had trouble with spammers/porn posters. they sign-up, then hit us and run.

We also added a question that has to be answered upon sign-up (...your interest in this forum...). Both measures have so far, stopped the spammers and porn posters.

The reason we don't discuss it much, especially in any forum that is accessible by un-registered users is we don't want those with nefarious intent to know what tactics we employ.

That all said, this is an imperfect process. I've seen a few times where user's posts get delayed. Not often though.

You sir are now good to go. Welcome to the forum!

Jim thanks for the quick response. Just so I understand is Cyclone 1 a factory rep from Heartland? Not to beat a dead horse but my dealer here is clueless to what my options are. I was on my way out this weekend to purchase a new raptor rv until I read the post from him last night I just want to make sure he is a reliable source.

Charlie,

Yes, Cyclone1 is from the factory. He is Brian Donat and he's the Cyclone and Razor product manager.

I usually do not see any factory reps on the forum over the weekend. Since you are near a purchase decision, I suggest you call Brian on Monday at 574-262-5992.

Let us know what you end up doing.

Jim
