Just saw a story on tv news that Dodge is recalling Dodge pickups (2003-2011) for defects in the steering that can cause loss of control. Guess you Dodge p/u owners will be hearing about this soon if you haven't already.

This has been around for at least a year or two. It's a clip on the tie rod ends. I had mine checked and I did not have it, Mine was bolted.

The models named in the recall have a left tie rod ball that may fracture in certain situations, including during low speed manoeuvres where the driver is making a tight turn.

The affected are as follows: 2008-2011 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 4x4, manufactured from February 14, 2008, through March 28, 2011; model year 2008-2011 Dodge Ram 3500 cab chassis 4x2, manufactured from February 14, 2008, through March 28, 2011; and model year 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4, manufactured from February 14, 2008, through August 15, 2008.

Check your VIN on this site. Scroll down a bit and on the left side you can enter the VIN and see if your unit is affected.

This is a new recall issued on 7-6-11 as quoted from the recall notice by Moose.

The previous recall was issued in 2009 and only applied to about 35000 Ram trucks. It recalled a similar part on the inner tie rod where it connected to the pitman arm.

So are you saying it is a different defect? Or, is it the same defect expanded to more vehicles? Thanks.

T that is a good obs but in my reading of the two recalls from the NHTSA recall website, the locations of the affected parts are different. Here is the description of the first steering linkage recall. Similar parts so you would think that they would check all of them. I'll be waiting for my recall notice. I tried to use the link provided by Moose to check my VIN but it is "Down for Maintenance, Check Back Later".

CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 32,782 MY 2008-2009 DODGE RAM 2500, 3500 AND 3500 CAB CHASSIS PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH POWERS AND SONS STEERING LINKAGE.
