I have a 5500 troy built Generator and I want to hook it up to my BH 3585RL. Hurricane Irene is threatening an I want to be able to use my home generator on my RV.

It has 4 -110 V outlets and 1 240V 4 prong outlet.

In order to run 1 a/c and the fridge and hot water heater on lp, is there a conversion plug that will take that 240V plug an make it like a 30amp RV plug I can plug my rv to? ALready have the 50amp female adapter to 30amp male adapter.

This should be the adaptor you need:

Then you will need a 50-30 adaptor

be careful about putting 240v to the rv you could burn out things ... I think some electrician folk can chime in on this.

Like said above, if you use the proper adaptor, it will only use one leg of the 220 volt 50 amp, giving you 110 volt 50 amp. The main breaker in the rig will only allow you to draw 30 amps.

The adapter simply passes through BOTH hot legs of the generator's 240V output. The generator can supply about 22A to each leg.

After using the adaptor that I posted earlier, you will need a 50 amp to 30amp adaptor like this:

You will only get 110 volts

After research I went with a l14-30 240v adapter that comes out on the other end with a 50a plug. Only one side of the 240v is used in tis regard. Thanks for all the replies. Looks like the hurricane is going to miss us and head up the eastern shoreline with a direct hit on Massachusetts.

Your gen, if like my Troy built 7800 will be quite noisy and thirsty, in excess of 1 gph gas, we lived in our 5ver for a couple days at home using the gen while central air was out in 100+ weather. I need to setup a plugin using house current. My little 3000 watt Boliy would not carry both AC's

Hi Bill,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and hopefully to the Family. We have a great bunch of people here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge if needed.

Thanks for posting about your generator usage.
