If you are planning to attend the 2012 North American Heartland Owners Rally in Gillette, WY in June of 2012, use this thread to discuss what you are planning "on-the-way" to Gillette in terms of:

  • What route(s) you are taking...
  • Where you are staying...
  • What you are seeing...

I started a thread for people from the Pacific Region to start planning several days ago. The thread is located here Pacific Region Planning where there has been lots of discussion so far. I know there has been a Southeast thread and a Texas thread started as well. All of these threads are in the Rallies General forum.

Do those threads need to be moved over here. If so, I will need to fix some links to get people to the right place. I can understand wanting to keep all of the 2012 threads in the same place.

Jay will be glad to see you and Stella at our 1st Rally. There are a few of us going to Gillette via MT Rushmore. We are working out the route now but will be going up thru Kansas and on to S.D. I don't know if we are spending two or three nights on the road to S.D. and we are trying to lock down if we are leaving on the 8th or 9th. All the ones with "Jobs" don't know if they can leave on Friday or not.

For those traveling north on I-25 through Colorado, St. Vrain State Park is an excellent place for a layover. St. Vrain is located near Longmont at the intersection of I-25 and CO 119. From St. Vrain, the distance to the rally campground is 315 miles. There are 87 campsites located in 8 campgrounds, most sites are on or near the banks of the ponds. Sites 1-41 have electrical hookups with water nearby and a centrally-located dump station. Sites 42-87 have water, sewer, and electric at each site. All sites also include a grill, picnic table and concrete pad.

Amy and I have been work camping here since December. We are leaving to the Rally on June 7th and anyone is welcome travel along with us. I recommend you make reservation for your stay. For anyone staying the night of June 6, there's an open invitation to come to our work camp ranch home for some food and fellowship.

Gang:
I don't know if I have posted my complete National and Cody Rally plans, but I will start (and include my NorLows campouts as well).
Today I am on a Heartland Campout in Gilroy, Ca. for an open house at the SeeGrins Dealership. Their dealership is really impressive, as they have an old WalMart location that sat empty for years. They have loads of RV's (mainly Heartlands of all product lines) INSIDE a climate controlled building, along with trade-in and consignment used rigs outside.
In 10 days I have another NorLows campout in Napa, California (May 16-20). Included in that campout will be a trip to the ferry terminal in nearby Vallejo, and a ferry trip to San Francisco for the day.
I go home for 2 days and then start out travelling East, heading for West Yellowstone MT. via Wells, Nevada and Idaho. I plan to stay just outside West Yellowstone in Baker's Hole Campground in Gallitin National Forest. With my Federal Senior discount card, the cost for space and electric service will be $16 a night. This is too early in the season for reservations, so I hope it works out. I have backup plans. I will stay there visiting Yellowstone for 2 weeks until June 7th, when I leave for Gillette via a stopover in the Cody area. I will arrive in Gillette on June 8th.
I will be at the Gillette Rally until June 17th, when I will depart for Hill City S.D. at the Rafter J Bar Ranch and the Mt. Rushmore area. On June 21st I will leave for the Cody, Wyo. rally.
I will be in Cody 6/21 - 6/24.
I have decided to travel through Yellowstone from Cody, stopping for the night in the Twin Falls, Idaho area. I have located a likely Twin Falls county park, Rock Creek Park.
I will stop again in Wells Nevada the next day, then on to Boca Rest Federal campground on Boca Lake about 11 miles east of Reno. I will probably stay there 2 nights and then backtrack back into Reno and up 395 to Hat Creek, Ca. for a NorLows campout 6/27 - 6/30. Then back to home and Sacramento until the July 25-28th NorLows campout at Greagle, Ca. (west of Truckee). I am undecided to say out the rest of July and slowly head Northwest for the Heartland regional rally August 10-12, or go back to Sacramento until it is time to head up I-5 to Canyonville.
I have NorLows 4 day camputs monthly through October, and 1 last Heartland Rally in nearby Jackson, Ca. in September.

Lots of RVing miles this year!!!

Bill, Your a heck of a lot more organized than we are.
We usually have an idea which direction we are going in and unless state or National parks are involved, requiring reservations, we fly by the seat of our pants.
We hardly ever make reservations if we are staying at private campgrounds and rarely get turned away.

We are headed to Kanab, Utah in a few days. Our "summer spot".
Aside from that, we are going to the Gillette and possibly Jackson rallys. Around and in between that, who knows. Trace

We are leaving home for Gillette on June 8th which is the day after school is out. We'll stop in Burns, OR the first night, then continue on with two nights in ID, one in MT, and one in Sheridan, WY before getting to the rally on the 13th. Afterward, we will go to Hill City, SD at a park just up the road from where a lot of the others going that direction will be. Then we'll go back through MT and spend four nights in Gardiner just outside the north entrance of Yellowstone. On to Ceour D'Alene for a couple of days, down along the Columbia Gorge, over to Astoria, OR, and down to Lincoln City, OR. We'll finish the trip at Casey's RV Park and get home the first week in July. This will be the longest trip we have ever taken and good practice for when I get to retire in a few years.

Then, we need to be at the Pacific Region Rally in Canyonville, OR in August. Of course, my school district wants me to spend time there over the summer, so it's going to be really busy!

Donna & I are setting out from Sacramento on Saturday, June 9th to Battle Mtn, Nv the first night. Then to Lyman, Wy the second (& longest) day. From there, we hit Casper for a stay-over and cruise into Gillette on Tuesday the 12th. After our first National Rally, we head straight down to Thornton, just north of Denver. After visiting my brother for a couple of days, we head to Las Vegas (family reunion) by way of Green River, Ut.

Does anyone know of a good place to stay with your rig in Vegas? Preferably close to the west side of town. I heard Circus Circus KOA area was pretty "IFFY". Any Ideas?

Safe travels to all. We'll see you in Gillette!

We stayed 1 night at Hitchin’ Post RV Park, Las Vegas, NV. (NE Side). Nothing fancy but nice.

We were at Sams Town, 5225 Boulder Hwy, Las Vegas a week ago(4/27 - 5/01). It is a Good Sam park, $32, and it was quiet, clean, and cable worked well. It is also pet friendly. Was easy to get to.

Oasis RV Resort on I15 at Blue Diamond is good.
