Need deeper cupboards/shelving

After living in our 3812 since May 31st on a major trip, our number one recommendation is to review and improve the cupboards and storage:
  • Make shelves above main TV about 5" deeper
  • Make cupboards above couch about 5" deeper
  • Make shelves in kitchen island about 8" deeper
  • Modify pantry for side access instead of 'deep end' access
  • Make medicine cabinet about 2x deeper
We also recommend moving the bed closer to the driver's side and splitting the available space since the curb side clearance between bed and wall is quite narrow.

Our unit has performed great and issues have been minimal. Storage is the 'fly in the ointment' for us. We will consider dealing on a new Cyclone if the storage is deeper on a new model.

We just saw a 4014 on the web and are going to watch for an opportunity to get a look at one in person. It's hard to tell for sure, but the cupboards and shelves did look deeper.

Thanks!

Cabinet depth is an issue in the 3800 as well. The only place to put plates is either over the microwave or in the drawer below the refer. Topping the list of our modifcations that we will accomplish this winter is increasing the depth of the cabinets over both the couch and theater seating. Easy enough for us to accomplish as we are "cabinetmakers" We will also be abondoning the round rung ladder to the loft, install a pantry cabinet and relocating a new flat runged ladder to the end of the pantry. Our 3800 has a door that swings into to the garage not a sliding glass door. This gives us some wall space to put the pantry. Sometimes I wonder if the engineers ever use the products they design.

Please post pix when you get these improvements done. TMax264 built a nice sliding shelf that fits into the long & narrow pantry doors; check out the post in this section. We're going to follow his design and definitely would like to see what you come up with.
We did find & evaluate a 4014 (looked at a 3800 too). We were also impressed by Dutchman's Voltage series and a neat Fusion with a galley walk-through kitchen to the garage. We didn't see enough improvements to make it worthwhile dealing, but it was easy to see how competitive the toy hauler market is. We expect to have our 3812 for some time to come and will continue investing in it.
