Hi bandtrenn,

The information for registration is in the first post of the thread. A Heartland Owners rally is a place where you will meet other Heartland owners and make some of the best friends and eat the best food there is. You will have a great time.

Also think of joining the Heartland Owners Club. Check out the information on the portal page.

Well, we have not made reservations yet but it looks as if we will be in Georgia by the time this Rally is taking place! So, we plan on being there also as it will be only about 50 minutes from our new HOME of Newnan, GA! :D We are looking forward to making new HOC friends...to add to our group of friends from Our Wisconsin Chapter. We are still keeping their Rally on our agenda!
We may actually be living out of our Bighorn for a while; time will tell! See y'all soon!

We are at the Pine Mountain, Ga campground the site of the Southeastern Rally to try to tie up a few loose ends and make sure everything is in place and ready for the rally. The folks at the campground have done an excellent job in getting ready for us.

Yesterday we went to FDR's Little White House but it was too late to do the tour, we will go back today and also try to visit Callaway Gardens before moving on to Tampa for the RV show.

As Dave said, we stopped off at Pine Mountain on the way down to Tampa after spending New Years at MB. Had a great time with some of my favorite people! Got a new coffee pot (thanks, Gus and Debra) and visited with some old friends from the area. SOB's bless their hearts!

Anyway, I'm glad we came over here from MB. It really is a lovely campground! The sites are large and flat and pull-thru with concrete pads. There is a salt-water pool and a spa and a huge kiddie pool with one of those water umbrellas. Wish it was warmer (make that a lot warmer) so I could get in it. I've always wanted to try a salt-water pool. For small children there are swings and slides. For fur kids there are two "bark parks".

The activity building where we will will be having our pot luck is huge and one of the best I have seen. It is a temperature controlled metal building with garage doors on two sides, so we can be indoors if it's cold and outdoors if it's warm. There is a kitchen, a/c and heaters.

Pine Mountain is not really in what I would call mountains, NOT AT ALL like Cherokee, thank goodness! It's an easy drive, mostly on interstates, and the campground is easy in, easy out.

Got to wash dishes, Randy and Santha are coming by and we are going to explore. More on that later.

We had a pleasant visit yesterday, Randy and Santha (Ga Chapter Leaders) stopped by the campground, We spent the day at FDR's Little White House in Warm Springs, GA. This would be a good place to tour during the rally in May.
Lunch at a local restaurant was not as good as one of the locals said it was going to be.

However all in all it was a good day spent with friends and very educational.

Here are a couple of updates from Callaway Gardens, If you are active or retired military admission is free and everyone in the vehicle is admitted free.

and for the Lake View course they are $80.00,per person plus tax Golf Cart included.
Military does get a 40% discount on their golf. Tee times must be made in advance.

class is $195.00 for 2 people. There is a full day of class is $295.00 for 2 people.
If you are interested in the fly fishing class let me know as they need a 2 to 3 week notice.

They have a tree top adventure. Tree Top Adventure Rates: 1-9 people $33.10, 10-16 people $ 27.75, 17- or more people $24.54 Prior reservations required.

Dick

The only thing I need to know is 'where' and 'when' the peppers or the sausage gravy are being served. From then on it is the natural satisfaction of the taste buds as each bite and morsel is savored and enjoyed. Kudo's to Dick Hill for the best stuffed jalapeno peppers ever, and even more so for his lovely bride that prepares biscuits and gravy to die for. Now that's something worthwhile to " ... name that tune".:p

Thought you might to know about some of the things to do in and around Pine Mountain. There is so much to do that I will be posting multiple times.

Dave has already told you about the big attraction in Pine Mountain: Callaway Gardens. This 13,000 acre paradise is the vision of one man who wanted to connect man with nature. Your first stop should be the Discovery Center which offers exhibits and displays about all there is to do at the Gardens. While we were there in January we saw the free-flight Birds of Prey Shows. Pretty awesome!!! We also visited the Butterfly Center which was toasty warm in January. Come May much will be in bloom, so it should be a beautiful place. If it's warm enough, there is a sand beach. There is golf on a world-class course. There is fishing in the lakes. No license required. If you are a fan of zip-lines there is the new Tree-Top Adventure which has a series of short zip lines through the trees. There are bicycles for rent and lovely winding trails to ride them on. That is just a brief overview. This link will give you more information. (http://www.callawaygardens.com)

Pine Mountain has lots of little shops, all locally owned, which sell all kinds of things. The work of local artists and craftsmen is often for sale. Restaurants are mostly casual and should appeal to most folks. Chipley Historical Center is a small museum of the area's heritage. Admission is free. Click here for a Pine Mountain website (http://www.pinemountain.org).

Two attractions very close to downtown Pine Mountain are Butts Mill Farm and Wild Animal Safari. Both would be fun for children.

Butts Mill Farm is a restored 80-acre farm where you can see a fully operational farm. There is a petting farm, miniature golf, kiddie train rides, water slide, pony rides and the list goes on and on. Try this link if you are interested. (http://www.buttsmillfarm.com) There is a Cafe and a deli, too.

Wild Animal Safari is a 500 acre park where the animals roam freely and was selected as one of 10 places to go on safari in the US by USA Today. You can tour on a park vehicle or drive your own vehicle. See this link.
Next posts will be about some very interesting thing to do in the area.

Here's some more stuff to do in and around Pine Mountain.

If you have to go to Walmart, it is in LaGrange about 15 miles north. Publix and Kroger are the two larger grocery stores in LaGrange.

Two "other" LaGrange attractions are:

"Hills and Dales Estate" a beautiful Italian villa style mansion and gardens. From what I have read, the tour guides are very knowledgeable and you can actually go into the rooms. Click here for more info (http://www.hillsanddales.org).

A unique experience is "Explorations in Antiquity Center" an interactive museum of daily life in biblical times. Until you've seen it, it is hard to describe exactly what it is, but very simply, it is a walk into the past of 2000-3000 years ago. The lives of farmers and shepherds, and life in a village are some of the fullscale archaeological replicas. Especially enjoyable is the opportunity to partake of an authentic 15 dish Biblical Meal with teachers in the roles of the ancients. Kids can participate in an "actual dig". This is their web site. (http://explorationsinantiquity.com)

Restaurants in LaGrange include C Sons, very highly rated: Katie's Too, a local Southern buffet favorite: A Taste of Lemon Restaurant, very good food in a unique setting: Mighty Joe's Pizza: Hog Heaven, BBQ and Big Sam's BBQ. As with most big towns there is fast food everywhere.

More later.

Dave, I thought I'd just give you a heads up that Millie & I trying to schedule this rally into our trip for this spring. We will be attending the rally in Gulf Shores the weekend prior to this rally. Right now, I am not sure if we will have to return more or less straight back to KY. If the timing works out and I should know in the next couple weeks, we will join this nice looking group at Pine Mountain. This certainly looks like a nice rally. I see several great Heartland folks we've had the pleasure of meeting before and as always love meeting other great campers. Even considering that Sir Dick (LOL) is on the roster of attendees.

The "Pine Mountain, Georgia rally" is coming up pretty soon. It's going to be the first rally that my wife and I attend and we are really looking forward to it. We went out to dinner with Mickey and Bonnie last night (they just hosted the Florida rally a couple of weeks ago) and they told us that we are in for a great time.

My question is, how are the "pot luck" dinners coordinated? How do you know what to bring so duplications don't become an issue?
I certainly don't want to bring 40 or 50 lobsters if somebody else has that planned... lol.

Dick

SouthernNights
04-13-2012, 04:37 AM
I don't know how anyone else does it, but in all the potlucks that we have had-whether planned or an after rally unplanned potluck-we have never coordinated anything. Always an abundance of of food, from salad to desserts.

We do always ask for people to bring their own drinks, flatware and dishes.

If you can make it to the Hilton Head rally next week, you can have a practice potluck. :D

boatto5er
04-13-2012, 06:24 AM
Hey Dick and Fran, come on up to Virginia Beach next month. I'm sure no one will mind if you bring extra lobster ;).

I'm with Larry - somehow it just always works out, even without any planning. Besides, who's complaining if everyone brings dessert?!

GETnBYE

Dick

Well of course you can bring 40 or 50 lobster.......you will be very welcome to bring them to the AlaMissibamassippee rally potluck dinner,LOL.;)

I can't really answer your question. I am a planner too, but I have learned to "go with the flow" with the potlucks. It seems to always work out.
Try to hit 2 categories of these: Meat dish, Vegetable dish, Dessert, Bread, Salad. How much you brings depends on the crowd and if it is something that can be re-rallied for the after the rally rally.

I think this post might win the most times to use the word "Rally":p
Enjoy the rally, and don't stress, there is always more than enough food and a last minute meal can be cooked up by some of the ladies who remind me of Ms. Paula Deen with the way they can re-do leftover sandwiches with a grill and some BUTTA into a fabo meal.

You are very welcome to come join the fun at the Ms/AL rally with or without the lobsters, it is coming up in a few short weeks.

The "Pine Mountain, Georgia rally" is coming up pretty soon.... ...My question is, how are the "pot luck" dinners coordinated? How do you know what to bring so duplications don't become an issue?

Dick,

In my experience, only the smallest of gatherings, say 4 to 6 couples, really need their potluck offerings to be coordinated. I was at a rally many years ago that had about 5 rigs and 3 people brought baked beans, 1 brought salad and only 1 couple brought meat (grilled tri-tip - yummy).

We still had fun!

No worries on a rally the size of the Regional rally though. There will be decent variety and for the record, I'm in favor of you bringing lobster :)

See you there.

Jim

davebennington
04-13-2012, 01:30 PM
Dick & Fran,

YES!!! By all means bring 50 lobsters. LOL.

When it comes to potlucks it reminds me of an organization that we belonged to years ago (power squadron) when they had a potluck nothing was planned, the officers said if everyone brought baked beans we would all have baked beans or if everyone brought salad we all would have salad. etc.... you get the idea. The strange thing was there was very little duplication of food.

That said if you would like to be the coordinator for the potluck for the Southeastern Regional rally I would be OK with that, just send me an e-mail or PM and I will fill you in on what I have planned.

dave

davebennington
04-14-2012, 12:34 PM
Well Dick just sent me a PM and said he could not be the potluck coordinator, that is OK Dick, can we still count on all the lobsters? LOL

On another subject the campground folks just emailed me and said they will take back the sites that I had reserved as of next Friday the 20th of April, after that we will only have the sites that already been reserved by Heartlanders.
So this is the last call if you want to attend the Southeastern Regional Rally call the campground soon to get sited with the rest of the group. The contact person is Judy and their number is 706.663.4329

As you can see you're in for a good time at this Rally. Well maybe I gave you a bum steer when I told you to ask about the Pot Luck items. We have had coordinators at some of the events, ie Dorothy Van Opstal, but like everyone said just bring something you would like to eat and it should work out. I have one question....the other night I thought you said "Lobsta" Maybe I just heard you wrong:) We were so engrossed with conversation, Bonnie told me I was sitting next to Glen Beck and didn't even know it.

Went to Calloway GArdens yesterday and had a great time. This park is really nice with very nice ammenities. Don't dismay when you pull in front; that is the old part. Once you get toward the back where we are you will see expansive spots, rolling hills, lots of new spaces, very nice. In fact I feel rich somehow, they put me on the hill overlooking this beautiful location. Just as if I had money. Very nice pool area, a couple of dog runs, and a great activities building. A few of us went out for Pizza last night. Saw the whole Pine Mountain police department there, so it must be good. I'm getting lazy here. Laid back living, simulated retirement can be bad for your work ethic. I didn't even get up till 6 this morning....LAZY.

Regrettably Michele and I are not going to be able to get away this evening to join you in Pine Mountain. I apologize for the very late notice, but we simply won't be able to make it this weekend. I hope all of you have a great time.

Cheers - George & Michele Lewis

Well the Southeast Regional Rally is winding down. The food was good the band was good and all the attendees were GREAT.

The Heartland family is the best, so glad to have met all the first time rally goers.

We had 2 couples that celebrated their anniversaries while attending the rally.

Happy anniversary to Dick & Fran Benard and Berney & Judi Verhey.

We even sign up a new member to the club, a BIG WELCOME to Gene and Betty Feldsein.

Betty I know you wanted to get a picture of the group for your very own, I will see to it that you a picture of the group when I get a chance in the mean time here are a couple for you to look at.

Well, it's almost over, but Judi and I would like to ask you all to join us at Eddy Mae's(Dinner Buffet) this evening. They are the people that catered that wonderful chicken dinner last night. It's sort of our anniversary dinner. Couldn't find a White Castle, so I had to splurge. Several have indicated that they are coming. Meet at 5:35 and we will caravan down there.

We made it home just fine and have even had a nap. Miss Ann and I had a great time, so much so we are now looking at possibly re-registering for the Gillette Rally (got to count our pennies, and I'm having a meeting with the folks I do consulting for to see if the schedule will allow my absense). We really did enjoy this rally, great location, great friends (and new ones), thanks to Dave for setting up such a fine rally. And a special thanks to Heartland for continuing to sponsor these rallies. During conversations we had we noticed that a lot of people have stated that due to these rallies they want to always stay with a Heartland product, plus most of us have seen interested folks become Heartland Owners shortly after meeting some of us at these rallies. The HOC is a great organization, thank you to Bryan Brady, and all of the Heartland corporate folks, and thanks to Jim Beletti, and all the Regional, and State directors of the HOC. Ann and I have always loved our BH, but having been treated the way we have been by Heartland and the HOC I don't believe we will ever regret our purchasing a Heartland product. (here comes the sailor in me) KUDO'S, AND Sierra Hotel to you all!!!!

Hope to see Y'all Soon,

Ron

Another great rally with our Heartland family. Thanks Dave and Julie for all the planning and coordinating, we had a wonderful time. We made it home safely just passed noon today after an over-nite stop in Linwood, NC Just a few days here at home to cut the grass and make a few doctor appointments, then on to the VA rally next week. Wow, just realized that TN, Gillette, and WY rallies all within the next month. Folks, this addiction is really serious!!!!

We had a great time. Made some new friends, learned about Geo Caching and boon docking. Got bitten by the Alaska bug and started a whole new list of "safety" items needed for the RV. Thanks to Dave and Heartland for a great fun filled weekend. Ken and Faye PS; Faye doesn't know about the new list yet, so let's keep this between us. K

Sorry to get back to you so late. We left the rally on Monday and arrived home on Tuesday. Had 101 things to do when we got home.

Fran and I had a great time at the rally. Dave did an exceptional job hosting the rally. Thank you very much Dave, and thank you very much to all of you who took Fran and I into your Heartland family.
We picked up some really good ideas on things to add to the coach. Some of these items are convenience items to help things go easier in setting up or just for general operation of the coach. Other items are just "must have" items. The "must have" items are a little harder to justify, especially the more expensive ones. So what we did is, we labeled these items "safety items". Any "safety items" would be purchased as the budget allowed.
Nathan and Ken had a screen shade that attached to their awning....I fell in love with that. Well, the screen shade automatically went on the safety item list. I told Fran that when adjusted properly, the screen shade would protect the brand new stained glass window for the door that she just ordered....the screen will be here Wednesday.

Last, but certainly not least is something else that we picked up at this rally. We met many people that we can now call "friends".
This was our first rally and we were told by several people that it would not be our last....they were right.

Seeing what others have done to their RV is a big part of a rally. As a result of the Pine Mountain rally, I have ordered the hard wired Progressive EMS system, a motion sensing LED porch light, a Flag Buddy flag pole with a 75W light, glass tile for the kitchen and bath backsplash and plexiglass inserts for the screen door. I know I feel "safer" already. Ken

Ken, where did you see the glass tile for kitchen and bath backsplash? Donna wants something and what she had found at Lowes looked to be a major expenditure and project timewise. Looking for advice.

Hogan - Gus just installed a tile backsplash to his Landmark. I wish I knew how to link the thread to it but it's called "glass tile backsplash". He has pretty good pictures.

Hi Bernie, I'd be glad to share a few items on my list that I am planning to add to our RV.
As I mentioned before, the stained glass window for the door and a shade screen for the awning are on order and should be here in a few days.
A few other things that I'm looking at are;
A security/porch light with a motion sensor.
A multi valve plumbing system (do it yourself) that goes in your UDC....I got that idea from Nathan.
Getting rid of my 12 volt battery and adding two 6 volt batteries (thanks Mickey).
A double canister system to purify the water.
I liked watching NASCAR on Nathan's TV in the basement....trying to figure a way to call that a "safety" item.
Maybe a set of disc brakes in the future.

If I get through this list, the only other thing that I'm really going to need is......
a tin cup and a few pencils.

Dick, thanks for the list. The motion sensor light will be the first thing on the list as soon as I can find the right one. I guess a 12V LED that's fairly bright would be the ticket. The multi valve plumbing system sounds interesting, but really don't know what it is/does.

I guess I saw it on the forum vs the rally. I got my tile from Lowes and the total cost including adhesive, grout and tiles was $108.50. That includes tile for the kitchen and the bath. I will probably have some tile left over but didn't want to come up short so got more than I think I'll need. Ken

Bernie, I just ordered one from Tweety's for $52.80. It is supposed to replace the one already installed on the RV. I got this idea from Nathan. Ken
