The cook says no. But said she had nothing to loose because the cost to dry clean was about the same as a new one. She washed it, but did not put it in the dryer, she left it outside to dry on the clothes line. The thing came out good and doesn't seemed to be harmed in any way.

Is there a tag on it anywhere with any instruction on way or another? We replaced ours on day one as have many others with something more conducive to daily wear and usage. The original is tucked away for the next owner one day in the future.

Same here. We use quilted bedspreads on ours. A lightweight one for warmer months and a slightly heavier one, with flannel sheets, for colder times.
