fire place and DVD cabinet

I noticed the cabinet containing our DVD player above the fire place in our 3600RL becomes very hot when the fire place is on for any length of time. Is this a danger to the DVD player, cables, and chords? Should the glass in the cabinet door be replace with some other type of vented material?

You need to raise the fireplace off of the carpet otherwise no air will circulate under the fireplace and it will overheat. I believe I used 3/8" plywood under the feet. Hope that helps.
