Engine Programmer

Has anyone with a Dodge 5.9 diesel used a Smarty programmer? What were the results.
My truck is completely stock except for a K&N air filter.

If you have the 48re automatic, I wouldn't do it with out first beefing it up. It is the weak link in the drive train for those years equipped with the 5.9. Smarty is probably the best tuner out there for the Cummins engines. The 5.9 is capable of tremendous power just in programming. If you go all out with injectors, turbo, after cooler, etc.., it is capable of well over 1,000 hp and 1,200 ft-lbs of torque.

I had a Dodge with the 48re a few yrs. ago and agree with hoefler that the tranny is the weak point. I had done a bunch of work on it that brought the power upto or even beyond what the new trucks have and it would tow very well. Eventually I had to rebuild the trans with all new high temp clutches a shift kit and a very expensive triple disc torque coverter and a few other items. After that it was practically bullet proof.
It towed extremely well and got better fuel mileage than the new trucks.
