 Hello there, anyone out there from Arizona? We just bought a 2011 Greystone 29MK, pulled by a 2012 F-250 XLT and are looking for nice cool places to camp in Arizona out of the heat. I heard Fools Hollow is nice up near Show Low anyone been up there?

Hello, We have been to Fool Hollow State Park and would highly recommend the campground. The only downside is that several of the sites are doubles, meaning they are actually two sites together. There are many of single sites so it really does not present a problem. The other great thing is the park accepts reservations. Go to the AZ State Parks website to reserve a site. Happy camping and enjoy your new rig.

Great choice, cool if you are from the desert floor, nice walking trails, and because it may be your first outing, just a mile and a half from a Walmart.

We were in Fool Hollow SRA Show Low AZ, last year. Stayed week but they have started taking reservations and many weekends are taken. Check for reservation before you go. Your GPS might take you into the park the wrong direction. It use to be through a resedential area but that is closed now and you have a seperate road into the park. Caution. The speed limit in the entire city is very very slow. School zones are 15mph all day long. They have cameras all over the place and signs say so. Drive with care.

Here is a photo of a double camp site we stayed in and it was not bad at all. This is a nice place to stay.

Another campground I liked in Arizona is this one. Catalina State Park. Desert setting but we liked it.

We are Arizona natives and have stayed at Fool Hollow several times, most recently Memorial weekend. As the summer progresses, Show Low becomes very warm (>95) during the day, so you'll find yourselves inside a lot from about 10 am to 5 pm. We move higher as the summer gets warmer. There are several places near Woods Canyon Lake, such as Canyon Point. No full hook ups, but a pleasant place. They do have some sites with electricity and they have a dump station and showers.

There are several campgrounds at Big Lake (about 9500 ft.) with beautiful weather in the hot summer. Apache Trout campground has a few sites with full hookups.

Also, if you are into just camping in the forest (dry camping), there are several areas to choose from. We like around Green's Peak (about 9500 ft.) and if you can see the peak, you will have cell coverage.

There are also other (non hookup) sites in the forest. Here are some links. We like the Apache-Sitgraves forest for dry camping. There are other campgrounds around Flagstaff that we enjoy.

There are also other places around the state, but most cool temperature locations are "dry camping" situations. If interested in more ideas, please send me a private e-mail.

If you are eligible there is a family camp at Ft. Tuthill just outside of Flagstaff and it is nice and cool there. Eligibility is limited to DOD affiliated/retired folks such as military or civil service.

Also for military folks, Camp Navajo is 10 miles west of Flagstaff. I like it a lot better than Ft. Tuthill (it is big rig friendly) and it has lots of dry camping spots as well.

Picacho Peak is a nice place to visit in the winter. Very nice state campground, lots of desert hiking.

We just got back from the Rim area. It's nice now but will get warmer as the summer wears on. Dry camping is abundant and really enjoy the Blue Ridge Reservoir area. </SPAN>
