Looking at your floor plan it appears that the shelf below the TV is not very deep.
One thing that you could do is get a DTV remote that is capable of using the RF signal to the receiver. Around $20 on eBay.
Then you could mount the receiver on its side in the cabinet above the TV.
Or you could get a board and make an extension shelf above the cabinet. You would then have to secure the receiver to the board or remove it for travel.
Wherever you decide to mount it you could drill some holes for the cables and hide them neatly.
When you complete the job, however you decide to do it, post some pics.
