ATF: Landmark - Bedroom TV, Water leak thru antenna

To Landmark factory rep: Without going into a lot of details, we have had more problems than we anticipated with our 2013 Landmark. We are currently in DC area & will be heading N into PA then E into Ohio, meandering back to N Texas. So we can take the rig most any place you recommend to fix the remaining problems. First problem is the bedroom TV does not work with our DISH. We want to be able to watch Dish TV in living room and a different program on the bedroom TV at the same time. The last 3 5th wheels that we had, Pilgrim, Open Road, Sierra all worked perfectly. Please explain in detail how to make it work in the Landmark. We had our son in-law take a look at it. He says the wiring from living room to bedroom is faulty or low quality & doesn't support satellite, because we can lay cable in the floor, run it from Living rm to bedrm Tv & it works fine. Surely, that is not the case since it worked in our other rigs that cost a fraction what we paid for this rig. Also, in the UDC we do not understand why we have 2 bedroom & 2 living rm satellite inputs. Can you please explain the purpose of these.
Second unresolved problem is during a heavy rain water comes thru the antenna onto the bed. We have tried silicone but anything we do causes the antenna not to be able to be turned. We think the antenna needs to be taken apart from the inside. ??
Other problems, the left shower door handle is not attached to the shower door. Took it to our dealer in Tx before we left on this trip & was told they would have to order a new shower door. Really?? The freezer has to be defrosted about every 7-10 days. It gets frost & ice very thick on the back wall. Never had to defrost a freezer this often. ?? The left door is tight but the right side freezer door needs needs adjusting as it ices up top center as well as the back wall. Our dealer said he'd have to order a new door. Really?? The bedroom emergency latch does not close properly. Again, at our dealer they said they would have to order a new window or a new latch (can't remember for sure). The 3 door mirror over bedrm sink was not installed properly. The mirrors touch when opened & closed & is splintering the mirror away. (the splintering started after we left Tx so our dealer was not given opportunity to address that). We would like to get these issues resolved before our rig goes out of warranty. Please advise us how to proceed.

GIGI, 1st you should call HL service and have your VIN# handy. Just so you know, not all dealers will work on your LM if you did not buy it from them. HL does not have any control over that. They are not like car dealers. Have HL set you up with a dealer or service center that will repair your issues. You may get an answer to your post in ATF...but it may take awhile. So, dont wait.....just call HL yourself.

Hi Gigi,

Sorry you're having these problems - sounds like your dealer is in the midst of addressing some of them, and others are awaiting a visit to a service location.

The best way to discuss these things with Heartland is as Bob & Patty mentioned - call Heartland Customer Service at 877-262-8032 and have your VIN # handy.

As many RV'ers have found, satellite TV installations come in MANY different arrangements and with many different capabilities. A lot depends on what type of dish/LNB you have, and of course whether you have more than one satellite receiver. Let me try to answer some of your questions.

If you're using a dish that sits outside, you connect the cable(s) from the LNB to the connectors in the UDC. One connection goes to the living room and another to the bedroom. The other pair in the UDC go to the prewiring that in the roof in case you want a rooftop dish installed. In the case of the rooftop dish, you would have to install a short jumper to connect each rooftop connector to the living room and bedroom connectors. One thing to take note of is that it's not uncommon for the labels to be wrong. The bedroom connector is probably the 2nd from the right. The living room connector is probably the leftmost.

Also, the wire in the bedroom goes directly to the UDC - it does not go through the living room. Here's a link to the latest COAX layout for new Landmarks, taken from the TOOLS/OWNERS MANUALS section of the forum.

In order to get things working, it helps to eliminate side issues. Take the outside coax from the dish (that's feeding the living room successfully), and in the UDC, move that wire to the bedroom connector in the UDC. Take the working receiver from the living room, and connect it in the bedroom. If it doesn't work, try each of the other UDC connectors. If none work, you'll have to start looking for bad crimps or loose connectors. Or you can let the dealer tech do it for you.

If you've had this same satellite equipment in other rigs, it should work in your Landmark. But if it's new equipment, you could be running into problems with the equipment or configuration that have little to do with your Landmark.

Really??

The frequent defrosting is no doubt from air/moisture getting through the right-side freezer door. Doors may be adjustable, and gaskets are usually replaceable. Without being there, it's hard to know why the dealer tech thought a new door was necessary. Is there visible damage? If not, you might want to take a look at the door yourself to see what adjustments are possible. One thing a lot of owners have experienced is that expertise on refrigerator (and satellite) problems varies tremendously from dealer to dealer.

If you're meandering takes you near Elkhart, IN, you might want to take it to Great Lakes RV Service Center in Elkhart. They're a high-volume Heartland dealer a few miles from the factory and should be able to take care of anything you need done. Note that getting parts can sometimes take longer than we'd like, so where parts have already been ordered, you may have to wait until you get home.
