Having electrical trouble w/ BC 3690

Just picked up our new BC 3690 yesterday. Drove a couple hours then set up for the night. This is our first time with a fifth wheel and the dealer had a major event going on so was unable to provide answers for these questions we encountered. The microwave light comes on and the turntable spins when you open the door but he control panel does not work- no clock. Fireplace worked for about an hour then stopped but the power switch lights up. kitchen vent fan and back wall outlets do not work. We've checked fuses and circuit breakers as well as the 3 - 25 watt fuses on the power converter. Any other suggestions? Dealer we bought from is about 5 hours from home so we'd rather not have to go back already.

Re: New 3690 issues

Wow, that's a lot of stuff to deal with. But there is help here on the forum.
First of all I would check the pedestal to verify that both legs of power are working. Use your multi meter.
You said that you checked the breakers. Sometimes they will trip, but not look like it, so a visual is not good enough. Switch them all off then on again.
You may have to contact the maker of the microwave for some trouble shooting tips. If that fails contact the dealer. If you feel comfortable swapping it out, have him ship it to you.
Don't know what to tell you about the fireplace other than to be sure thermostat is not set to turn off at a low temp.
If by kitchen vent fan you mean ceiling fan, I am pretty sure that you have a Fantastic Vent for the fan in the kitchen. When you turn it on, just move the little lever a bit till you hear the fan start to open. If you turn it up too high the fan will not open.
You should get more responses.

Peace
Dave

Sounds like you have issues with both 120V and 12V systems. Your 120V might be a GFI issue. Look in the bathroom at the plug and see if its tripped. You also might have one in the kitchen. Make sure that both legs from shore power are working.

Are you plugged into a 30 or 50 AMP service?

SOUNDS LIKE THERMOSTAT. TRY ADJUSTING IT TO A HIGHER UPPER LIMIT. SOME FIREPLACES HAVE ONE SWITCH FOR LIGHT BRIGHTNESS AND ANOTHER FOR THERMOSTATE.

kitchen vent fan and back wall outlets do not work. We've checked fuses and circuit breakers as well as the 3 - 25 watt fuses on the power converter. SOUNDS LIKE GFI BREAKER THAT SHOULD BE ON ONE OF THE SWITCHES IN THE KITCHEN. IT IS A LITTLE RED PUSH BUTTON ON RECEPTACLE. PICK UP AN ELECTRICAL TESTER AND CHECK FOR POWER.

Re: New 3690 issues

We were hooked up to 50 amp, not sure what you mean by both legs of power. We reset the GFI in the bathroom, doesn't seem to be one in the kitchen - no help.

The 50 amp plug has 4 pins. The left and right are each hot, each carrying 50 Amp of 110V. If you put a voltmeter across those 2, you'll read 220V. If one of those pins is not providing power, or one of the wires coming into your rig isn't carrying power, or if you have a malfunctioning transfer switch (comes with generator prep), half of your 110V circuit breakers will not get any power and a lot of stuff won't work. That's what is meant by one leg being missing.

Your symptoms sound more like you don't have correct voltage inside, or maybe the neutral line has a problem. Did your dealer install a generator for you or do anything special with the electrical system?

Can you try connecting to another pedestal? Or if you have an adapter to 30Amp, try plugging into the 30Amp outlet.

Make sure you are plugging the 50amp power cord into the unit correctly. It should line up then twist in. If you are just plugging it in without having to twist it in there. There is half of your problems solved.

It sounds like you could use some warranty service on your Big Country. Since your dealer is 450 miles away, I would find an RV servicer (preferably independent, non-dealer) in your local area to do your warranty work. Heartland will authorize this with a phone call to them prior to the service being performed. Heartland service keeps a list of 3rd party service providers they have worked with, and might have a name in your area. The Heartland Service contact number is on the left top of the Portal page.
