Asheville or Knoxville TN area

Hi. We are newbies and never been to this area. I notice a lot of RV parks but their rates are high and/or they are booked already for the October season. Anyone have any suggestions as to the other smaller areas in this region that are safe for RVers. We have a 39 ft. 5th wheeler so we can't do small. Looking at the map we saw Newport and Bainbridge, where are the nice areas that are safe yet not too congested. I heard Pigeon Forge is nice but congested and expensive. We aren't cheapies, but don't want to blow our budget if there are nicer areas around. We are flexible and want to stay around a month if we like area. Thanks all!

You might try the KOA in Cherokee, we stayed there a couple of years ago with our toyhauler. Had plenty of room in our pull-through to drop the tailgate and off load our Wing, but had to park the truck crossways in front of our 39'11" 5vr). It's close to the Blueridge Parkway access and a clean park. There are many other parks in the areas of Maggie Valley, Sylva, etc, but we can't give first hand knowledge.

Yes, if the park is any good it will be spendy and most are booked well in advance for the month of October. The whole area is beautiful in the fall though.

You might try the Roam and Roost in Crossville. We stayed in this little campground one week every quarter for two years when we was scouting the area for retirement. It is a small campground with very large sites with concrete pads. The man/wife owners have owned and operated the place for about 10 years (it was their retirement plan). They are great people that pride themselves in providing a campground that is clean and comfortable.

We were there last Oct. and stayed at Moonshine Creek campground outside of Waynesville NC. It is about a half mile from Blueridge Parkway. The people where very nice , and everything was clean and quite. Most of there sites back up to the creek, it is shaded and nice, we will definetly go back.

October is THE month in the mountains, so if you find a vacancy you need to lock it in with a deposit. Creekwood and Pride Resorts, both on US 276N, Maggie Valley, are both fairly large and may have an opening. The others mentioned are nice also. If you need some phone numbers give me a call, but they should be listed in Woodalls or Trailer Life Campgrounds books. 828-456-4560

Last May we spent 2 weeks at the Jellystone Campground located about 15 miles east of Gatlinburg. The sites were not very wide, but we backed up to a creek. It was gorgeous. We have a Monticello and the sites were deep enough. The park is run by a family --- mom, dad, and two sons. They were fantastic.

Good luck

Try Caney Creek near Hariman, TN a new park...level concrete pads, blacktop roads, cable tv, and it is on a lake....beautiful area about 40 minutes west of Knoxville.
