Fuel Mileage

Checking the common fuel mileage everyone is obtaining with their rigs towing. I like to set the results into two main groups, Tow vehicles pre 2007 and Tow vehicles 2007 and newer. If everyone can just poll back to this post, I will start a spreadsheet with the results.

On our 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4X4 D/A towing a 2006 Bighorn 3055RL:

The overall towing average on our recent over 5,000 mile National Parks trip out west we did 12.8 mpg. This included some quite hilly country with elevations of up to 3,000' and temperatures up to 105 degrees. The maximum towing speed usually was 60 to 65 mph. We have about 25,000 miles on the truck.

2008 Ford F450 - getting 9 mpg towing in the summer with the AC on.
When not towing, we're at 13 mpg around town - don't have highway info
yet.
The truck is new, so figures are still improving upward.

01 Dodge Ram Quad Cab, Cummins HO/6speed manual tranny with a couple minor mods (4 inch Magnaflow exhaust, K&N filter, Hypertech Power Programmer on Stage 3). 4x4, 265/75/16's with 3:55's.
Towing my new Sundance 3012RE on my first trip out, total 1250 miles round trip, averaged 14.4MPG with highest recorded 15.6 on one tankful (two lane roads and no hills) Weighed rig on outbound trip with full fuel tank, empty black/grey and 1/3 fresh, total weight 18,380lbs.

Not towing, 18-20MPG around town, highway miles 22-26 depending on speed.

MPG by hand calculation is 2.6mpg less than on board computer.

driver311,

25.4 mpg..............mmmmmmm.........must have been a very big tail wind or fuel mileage calculated down hill only..........if pulling any RV.

My 06 Duramax averages 11 mpg pulling 3600RL @ 22460 lbs @ 62 mph @ 1650 rpms (round trip CA to Pa, CA to TX, Ca to WA). The truck's computer calculates mileage @ 1/10 less than hand calc's. My son's 05 Ram's computer calculates mileage 3 mpg higher than hand calc's. Both trucks are stock factory equipped.
