2013 Goshen Rally - Travel Routing

Has anybody driven US-20 from I-69 over to the Goshen area? I'll be coming south down I-75 to US-127 and then I-69. Last time, I took 80/90 over to Middlebury, picking up IN-13 and then on down, but am considering avoiding the toll road this time. Just want to be sure there are no low hanging surprises.

Use this thread to discuss with other attendees, Travel Routings to Goshen.

NOTE: ENETER AT GATE 1. This is NOT the gate we've entered in past years. This is the west-most gate. The road at that gate runs along the west edge of this venue.

Re: Route to Goshen

JohnDar,
20 is not a bad road at all as stated can get a little slow around Shipshewana and Middlebury but not terrible. Rt 15 off Rt 20 will take you in to Goshen although I have only been on 15 a few times. I am going to Elkhart tomorrow if not pressed for time I will take 15 into Goshen off 20 and let you know how that road is.

The toll road from Angola to South Bend road is rough pulling a camper in my opinion...plus had some minor construction spots going on last week plus cost almost $10 from Angola to Elkhart probably close to $8 if just going to Middlebury.

John, take a look at Hwy 12 from 69 at Coldwater. 12 west to 15 then south right into Goshen. It's been a while but we've been on 12 and it's pretty nice.

How about a directions thread? We're planning on OH turnpike and then across 20. I'd like to see suggestions from folks on the best routes to take. Not sure how best to get across PA.

John,

15 into Goshen from 20 is only 6 miles other than being little bumpy typical Indiana rd there would be no problems with your rig.

Re: Route to Goshen

We are leaving CA. for Goshen in a couple days via Rt. I-80. I've been watching the weather in the mid west; Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa etc. and am a little concerned. Just wanted to see if anyone has experienced the storms and could provide some info.

Re: Route to Goshen

Three of us Heartlanders are going to caravan from central WI through the U.P. and breaking up the trip into 3 travel days. Stops in Manistique, MI at Indian Lake Travel Resort and Manistee, MI. at Little River Casino RV park. Hopefully to win enough cash to pay for fuel. Yea, right...
Coming in on the 14th.

John,
When we left the rally two years ago we went up to the Lake Michigan shore. From where you are 131 goes mostly straight south and turns into Indiana 13 which will take you to 4 which goes right into Goshen. It is a pretty good road and we did not have any problems. Check it out on the map and see what you think. Also anyone coming US 20 from the east can also enter this way using Indiana 13 and 4, that is the way we travel as we only live 1/2 mile from 20 near the Indiana and Ohio line.

Re: Route to Goshen

Question:
I am coming by I-80 from California to Elkhart first. What will my Indiana toll road toll be for my 4 axle rig? I looked at their website, got a price of about $15, but did not understand the "Barrier Charges".

Re: Route to Goshen

Thanks! That's exactly what we were thinking of doing. Nice to get off the interstate and see a bit of the countryside. We're taking 2½ days as this will be our longest trip - and the first such with a cat and dog along for the long ride. Taking 76 across PA to the OH Turnpike and thinking of getting off on 20 at the OH/IN line to 13 to 4. Stopping in Donegal, PA and Perrysburg, OH along the way.

Re: Route to Goshen

Jim - for those of us who are arriving early (11-17th), is gate 1 also suppose to be used?

Byrd - yes. Gate 1 for all but rally core volunteer team. That small group will enter gate 2 starting the 6th.

Thanks for the heads up cuz I sure would have headed to the gate we used 2 years ago without even thinking about it.

I'm not sure if it's been posted - but here is a pic of the fairgrounds with the service at the sites listed, and the gates.
