Crochet Baby Turban

I made a few of these for the Babies Wrapped in Love - they work up really quickly and you can vary the size by changing the hook size or doing 12 rounds instead of 14. I also used a sport weight yarn. Since I was working with a lighter weight yarn, I started with only 10 dc in the first round.

As I promised a few of the ladies - here is the pattern:

Crochet Baby Turban Pattern – size 0-3 months
Supplies:
Martha Stewart Extra Soft Wool Blend or similar worsted-weight baby yarn (you can get two hats from one skein).
US G6/4.00mm crochet hook
Yarn Needle
Stitches: ch- chain, dc-double crochet, hdc-half double crochet, sl st- slip stitch
The first 5 rounds are crocheted in the round and joined with a slip stitch in the starting chain. What you might consider the “wrong side” of the top of the hat becomes the “right side” once the rib stitch begins at row 6. From round 6 on, at the end of each round, join with a slip stitch before turning to begin the next round (this means you will alternate working from the front and the back of the hat).
Repeat pattern inside the asterisks. Total stitch count for each round is in parentheses. Chain does not count toward final stitch count.
Gauge: Rounds 1-4 = 2 3/4″ height
Start with a Magic ring (http://www.crochetme. com/forums/t/28917.aspx)

  • Row 1- ch 3, dc 11 inside magic ring; join with a sl st in top of beginning ch.

  • Row 2- ch 3, *2 dc in each dc* around; join with a sl st in top of beginning ch. (22 dc)

  • Row 3- ch 3, *2 dc in first dc. 1 dc in next dc* around; join with a sl st in top of beginning ch. (33 dc)

  • Row 4- ch 3, *2 dc in first dc. 1 dc in next 2 dc* around; join with a sl st in top of beginning ch. (44 dc)

  • Row 5- ch 3, *2 dc in first dc. 1 dc in next 3 stitches* around; join with a sl st in top of beginning ch (55 dc)

  • Row 6- ch 3, dc in every stitch around; join with a sl st in top of beginning ch. Turn. (55 dc)

  • Row 7- ch 2, hdc in every dc around in back loop only; join with a sl st in top of beginning ch. Turn. (55 hdc)

  • Row 8- ch 3, dc in each hdc front loop only; join with a sl st in top of beginning ch. Turn. (55 dc)

  • Repeat rows 7 and 8 three more times (creating 4 “ribs” of stitches). You will complete 14 rounds in all.
Finish off. Weave in ends.
Thread yarn through yarn needle. Using a double thickness, wrap yarn from top of first rib to the edge of the hat and pull tight. Wind it about 7 times to make the turban “knot”. Secure yarn and hide end under the knot.
