I hate to rain on your parade but they won't deliver the cards. Our daughter is involved in a support group for wounded soldiers at Ft. Bragg, NC and she sent me an email from Walter Reed about this very subject. Just as they won't deliver mail addressed to "any soldier" they won't deliver anything that isn't addressed to a particular person with name, rank, etc. It sounds like a great idea and it's too bad that our society has evolved to the point that everything is suspect.

Well that's a shame and I'm sorry. Someone sent it to me and I thought it was a great idea. Mail call is a sad time when you aren't getting anything handed to you especially when you are in a hospital and needing something to cheer you up. God Bless all of our troops.

"Any Service Member" alternatives

Here is a little blurb from HQDA on the subject:

In support of the decision by then Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Transportation Policy in 2001, Walter Reed cannot accept these packages. This decision was made to ensure the safety and well being of patients and staff at medical centers throughout the Department of Defense.

Instead of sending an "Any Wounded Soldier" or "Any Service Member" letter or package, please consider making a donation to one of the more than 300 nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping our troops and their families listed on the "America Supports You" website, www.americasupportsyou.mil.

Other organizations that offer means of showing your support for our troops or assist wounded servicemembers and their families include:

(Paraphrased from a Department of Army press release)

Thanks for your support of our troops!

Thanks Truknutt;

That's a great idea and now we are more assured that it's going to places where it's needed.

Tab;
I don't know where you found it, but it's bookmarked in my favorite folders. I hope that anyone that is interested will take the time to send at least one card or letter. Thanks for posting it.
