Does the warranty start the day you take delivery of a unit or is it two years from model year. Took possession in Sept.2012 of a 2013 Key Largo.

It starts the day you sign the purchase agreement and put a deposit on the rig. If you take possession at a later date, the meter is already running on the warranty.

We signed a paper called a "Buyer's Agreement" which specified what we were ordering, and the price we agreed to pay. We made a small deposit. That happened on July 22, 2010. That did not start the warranty clock.

The trailer arrived on the dealer lot on August 27, 2010. That did not start the warranty clock.

On September 1 we did the PDI. The dealer had a set of paperwork including a new version of the Buyer's Agreement showing the purchase date as September 1. Because we were going to title the trailer in another state, they also gave us the original title, with transfer information filled out on the back, showing the purchase date as September 1.

The dealer asked us to sign an acceptance letter agreeing that everything was as promised, which they said would be forwarded to Heartland to register the trailer and start the warranty clock. We actually signed that on September 2.

The date of purchase was recorded by everyone as September 1 and that's when the warranty clock started.

I've gotta agree with Dan. If you buy a trailer off the lot, the clock starts when you take delivery, not when the dealer ordered it for inventory.

One more thing for clarity because I remember someone posting about leaving his trailer at the dealership.

If you sign all the papers, and pay all the money, but decide to leave/store it at the dealership as a matter of convenience, perhaps because it's winter, you have officially taken delivery even though it's still on the dealer lot. The title transfer has occurred. The warranty clock runs.

A warranty document is delivered to the dealer, with the coach, in the title packet. The warranty document is completed by the dealer and signed by the retail purchaser. The date that document is signed should be the date the warranty clock begins. Dealers should give the retail buyer a copy of that document.

I thought the warranty from Heartland was only one year not two, or are you referring to appliance manufacturer warranties?

In order for the 2+5 year warranty to be valid one needs to have the unit inspected each year by a certified RV center and send a copy of this direct to HL

that applies to the 5 year warranty on the structure...not the 2 year bumper to bumper...
