Sorry I know stupid question but I haven't used it yet and don't want to flood it out.

From the sub-forum location and subject line, I'm guessing this is asking how to start the generator on the Road Warrior.

The 2013 Heartland Trailer Manual says:
Generator
To operate:
• Make sure the generator exhaust is unobstructed.
• For gasoline models only, press down on the generator
switch (located on the main switch panel) and hold for
2 seconds to prime the generator. This does not need
to be done unless the generator has not run for awhile
or has previously run out of fuel.
• Press up on the switch to start generator.
• There will be a slight delay in power due to the
electronics built into the generator and the transfer
switch.
• If there is still no power being generated after 45
seconds, check that the breakers inside the front
cover of the generator are turned on. To open the
front cover, pull out on the top of the front cover. There
are two 30 amp breakers as well as another start/stop
switch that operates in the same fashion as the interior
switch.

Thank you I appreciate the information dealer didn't specify at delivery (or I may have forgotten)

As I understand it the primer just fills the carburetor float bowl. So it should not force fuel into the engine and flood it. But a couple of seconds at most. It should not be needed if it has been run recently. I suppose if it had set for a long time it could take a little longer to suck fuel from the storage tank.

Sorry how long do I prime the onan 5500 prior to starting ?

I prime mine for 20 to 25 seconds, anything less then that and I have to crank it a lot to get it started. Pretty sure all it does is fill the float bowl on the carburetor and if the float and needle is good it shouldn't flood out.

On mine-hold until the switch lights up red. Then start. Sometimes if it is cold and has not been started for some time it make take two primes.
