Black Spray Foam - are there special properties?

Morning all,

I am in the process of upgrading my Cyclone Batteries from the single 12v to Quad 6v and in the process of shoe-horning the new box into place I ended up destroying the black phone that sealed the Generator Box from the Battery Compartment. I've not seen a Black spray foam before so I wanted to check to see if anyone knew if it was anything special? or should I just use a standard closed cell foam product from Home Depot?

I also want to use the same product to seal up other "openings" that I have been meaning to tighten up in the under-body of the rig.. for that I was definetly planning on a closed cell product due to it's resistance to water absorption.

Thanks for the help..

Kevin, are you talking about that water sealer in a can "as seen on tv"? I saw some at Lowes a few days ago. About $12.95 I think. It comes in black, white or clear. Didn't buy any but think I will next trip and try it out.

No Tony,

The Black foam I'm referencing is a closed cell expanding foam that HL used to seal the openings in my Rig.. I'm questioning if there are any special properties ( fire proof, vapor barrier ) etc...

I bought black foam at a local home repair center. A Home Depot type store, Menards.
They have it in the garden area. It is used for outdoor garden ponds.
So you might want to check a garden center. If they sell the garden ponds they will have the black foam.

You might try calling Heartland Customer Service and asking them what product they use and if they could suggest something that you can obtain locally.

I use the Dow Great Stuff Pond and stone spray foam. It is water resistant and for the most part does not discolor too bad. It does fade some in direct sunlight. It will expand more than it seems when first applied. apply some move on to a different spot and apply. check back after a few minutes to check expansion process.

The black foam is an outdoor pond - landscaping product. Look in that section on HD or Lowes.
Amazon as well.
