Considering a TQ290 or ?

Just joined to get some information on the TQ290. I conducted a search, but there are not many subjects on the matter. I am new to the RV world and have decided that I need to get a toy hauler. I have a family of five and plan to take them on extended summer trips when they are not in school.

Anyway, the reason I was looking at the TQ290 was due to the layout, hitch weight, and overall weight of the trailer. Let me explain, how I came to this initial conclusion. Before I start, I really want a 5th wheel, but am not sure my truck will comfortably and safely tow it due to manufacurer specifications.

My truck: 2014 RAM 2500HD CC, 4x4

Max payload: 2,291 lbs while simultaneously towing 14,809 lbs (max). If I reduce payload my towing numbers will go up.

If I subtract the weight of the remaining 4 people from payload and correct the weight that RAM uses to calculate the driver, that leaves me 1,741 lbs

If I decided to tow a 5th wheel, I would need to subtract an approximately 250 lbs for the hitch, which leaves me at 1,491 lbs for payload.

I figured that I need to subtract an additional 50 lbs for misc (women and their things).

That leaves me with a grand total 1491 lbs for actual pin weight while towing 14,809 lbs (max)

In case you were wondering my axle and tire specs are as follows:

Front: 6,000 lbs GAWR
Rear: 6,500 lbs GAWR
Tires: E rated

Does this sound about right to you? My intent is to safely and efficienctly tow the biggest trailer I can so my family can be comfortable for extended trips. Those numbers are correct and it will be the same for any similar equipped 3/4 diesel if you look up the specs and do the math.

If you would go with a 5th wheel toy hauler, which would you recommend?

If the TQ290 is the ticket, have the issues with the WDH mounting (in relation to the propane cross member) been resolved?

Are there any issues with the Lyman (sp?) frame? I thought I read somewhere on the web that the frame had issues?

Thanks for your time and input.

As far as the Weight distributing hitch mounting on the TQ290. Take a look at the Equal-I-zer hitch. It has very flexible mounting options to work around all kind sorts of mounting obstacles.
