Trace, I've eaten at both several times. Both are good food. Sunset Grill has an incredible view but because of all the windows, it is extremely hot inside even in May. The Branding Iron is very good food and is directly across the highway from the campground. I like the Branding Iron better

We currently have only two spots remaining for this Rally.
What a great group we have coming. Seven different State's Chapters are being represented, so far. Thanks to everyone, we are really looking forward to this.

To everyone who is already signed up, I am having T-Shirts made to commemorate this Rally.
Please let me know if you would like any and if so, your quantity and sizes. I'm anticipating the cost to be $12-$14, as I plan to do a few extra colors this time. Deadline for shirts to be ordered is March 1, 2015. Thanks, Trace

Cellman,
Congratulations on your new Torque and welcome to the Heartland Owners family and forum.

As Dave said, consider coming to the Moab Rally. If you choose to opt for the free one year Owners Club Membership, it's free to come to any rally for the entire year. There is really no down side. Otherwise as a Non-Club Heartland Owner, it's only $20 to cover the cost of food, gifts, etc.

Either way, just make your own reservations and please let me know if you do. Details are in the first post of this thread.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email or PM me. Thanks., Trace

For those of you coming to Moab, I am doing T-shirts. The cost will be around 12 bucks. If you want shirts please let me know quantity and sizes.

The cut-off for shirts is March 1, 2015, so you have time to make your decision.

Also, if you would be interesting in going to Susie's Branding Iron (SUSIES_BRANDING_IRON) (http://www.susiesbrandingiron.com/Default.aspx) for dinner one night during our Moab stay plese let me know. I would like a ballpark head count to make a reservation. Thanks much, Trace

If you would like shirts and have not notified me with your quantity and sizes, please post the info to this thread or contact me via PM, or email.

The folks that have already notified me are listed in the first post of this thread.

If your quantity, or size is not correct on the first post, please let me know. This is the list I will go by when ordering.

I will also be contacting everyone about the where/when/cost of payment as soon as the design is finalized and priced out. Thanks, Trace

Due to a series of circumstances we have had two sites unexpectedly open up for our Moab Utah Rally.

If you have had any interest in coming out to join us, we would be happy to have you! Come and meet some new like minded people, or see old friends. Activity wise, You can do as much as you want, or as little as you want. I can tell you this, Moab is an awesome place.

Please call Janie at 1-800-787-2751 before February 28th, as that is the last day these sites will be held for our group.

If you have any questions, please feel free to Email, or PM me. all details are in the first post of this thread. Trace

Wish you had something going on in August as we are planning our trip to Lake Tahoe then and will probably go through Utah on our way back to Colorado.

We always try to mix an HOC event into our travels if possible . . .

I am putting together a smooth water afternoon jetboat ride through Canyonlands N.P. on the Colorado River, on a day (to be determined) during our stay.
One boat holds 40 people and one holds 20, so it will depend on how much interest there is. I have read the reviews on the web and they are very good. They have a knowledgeable guide on board to make it interesting and informative.

Although other activities are available on the water, this is an activity almost anyone can enjoy, regardless of physical ability. That is why I chose it.

The cost will be $89 per person for a three hour tour. (Unless I can negotiate a group discount, if we have a good enough response)

It is supposed to be great photography opportunity, as you are able to get some good angles you can't see from shore.

I am looking for a headcount of those that would be interested in doing this.

Please post to the MOAB RALLY THREAD, Email or PM me with your preference of yes, or no. Thanks, Trace

OK Trace, don't you go scaring my people off before I even meet them! lol

Ben and Rhonda,
Have a great time in UT. I wish we could be there too, but there will be lots of people there who will also be in WA and OR for our rallies. Ask all your questions and be careful how many mods you watch, because those end up costing money when you decide you just have to do that to yours too!

Thank you all for the nice welcome. We are looking forward to making new friends and seeing some beautiful areas. We are also looking forward to learning from you who have experience in RVing, we hope to ask some good questions and maybe advance our learning curve. Thanks again for the welcome, we are excited to meet you all.

Oh Darn, we are at Granite Lake RV in Clarkston, heading south on Sunday. We stop over in LaGrande at Eagles Hot Lake Resort and then leave on the 13th for Salt Lake and meeting up with some more Heartlanders to spend a few days in Torrey to explore the Capital Reef park area before leaving the morning of the 19th to head to Moab for the Rally. Maybe we'll be able to see you somewhere along the route

Hey P.J.

Your route looks good to me. Hwy 6 to Hwy 191 then 70 for a short while then south on 191.

We are leaving next Sunday and staying 2 nights in Mesquite Nv then on to Moab Tue morning.

See ya then and safe travels to all those coming to the Utah Rally. Going to be fun.....

We will be staying in Provo the night before arriving in Moab. Google maps shows the route from Prove to Moab as heading SE on Hwy 6 then 91. Is this a good road for towing?

PJ this is the most popular route and is used by many trucks. I travel this route frequently and will be this trip also. This is mostly two and three lane with several curves. Heed the reduced speed signs and stay alert. Many people tend to get impatient and try to pass when it is not safe to do so.

Trace,

We will be heading to Spanish Trail from Thousand Lakes RV Park in Torrey. Is there a route that is recommended or one that is a definite no go? My map system gives me 2 routes, with the first and shortest being UT 24 to 191. The other is UT 24 to Interstate 70 to 191, which my maps show as about 20 minutes longer of a route. Just want to make sure that my GPS does not take me a route that has low overpasses/bridges or terribly windy roads that are not conducive to a 40 foot fifth wheel.

Rod

Rod,
I have never driven either of these routes. Of the two routes mentioned, 24 to 70 would probably be the more conservative. Although 70 seems like a grind in spots.

However, I would would probably take 24 to 191, as it would be more scenic and I tend to gravitate to byways whenever possible. They both show in the truckers atlas as doable.

The one thing is, you are driving through Capitol Reef and will have to pay an entrance fee, unless you have a pass. Trace

Thanks Trace. What is the entrance fee with a fiver? Or is it just per person?

Rod

We just completed this route a few weeks ago after staying at Thousand Lakes. You don't have to pay a fee to drive through Capital Reef on 24, unless you stop at the visitor's center and take the scenic drive. Free with senior pass.

24 is very rough and slow between Torrey and Hanksville. It even has signs stating "Rough Road" Literally 35 MPH max at times due to bucking and bouncing. There's really no way around it without backtracking a lot of miles. Just plan to take it nice and slow. 24 does not intersect 191. You either have to turn left at Hanksville, to stay on 24 to I-70 or go straight and it becomes 95 which intersects 191 at Blanding. I have never driven the part of 95 from Hanksville to Natural Bridges NM, but I have driven the other part from NBNM to Blanding and it is good road with a few grades to climb.

Hope this helps. BTW, we were most impressed with Canyonlands NP. We did not expect it to be so magnificent. We camped at a BLM campground outside Moab, called Ken's Lake. It was excellent for boonedocking. Very quiet with tons of space between camp sites. $7.50 / night with senior pass.

Thanks Scotty. We do not quite qualify for the senior pass. Any idea of the cost without it?

Ha Ha! Only one of us is of age and that's all I'm going to say about that. $10 to take the scenic drive. Free to drive through the park on Hwy 24. In fact, all 5 NP's we visited in UT are $10 / car. BTW, I highly recommend the scenic drive while you are staying in Torrey. Well worth the drive.

Update: I just realized that Zion and Bryce charge $25 / car. The others are $10.

Without a doubt, take 24 to Hanksville and then up to 70 and across to 191. This portion of 70 is fairly flat. As you approach 191 be alert. There is an on ramp from a rest stop that immediately ties into the off ramp to 191.

I love the smell of a quickly approaching rally, the anticipation of a new rig pulling into the campground as we rubber-neck trying to see who it might be. I love the warmth of a handshake from an old friend and the promise it brings from a new one. I love hearing the sounds of laughter and the reflection that a warm camp fire brings to the eyes. I love the oohs and awes as we admire a new camper or truck, and the almost reverential gathering of men pointing and pondering the wonderful technical aspects. I love the early mornings where a few gather embracing a cup of coffee and quietly murmur to each other with respect to the new day. Yup, it's almost rally time...see you there.

Steve and I are packing the RV now and were planning on leaving Sunday morning to start the drive to Utah. We had taken the rig to Giant Rv in Colton CA for some warranty service right after the Pechanga Rally and just picked it up last week. Lo and Behold the DVD player is missing. Someone at Giant told Steve that the guy that had been working on our rig had been fired. So we will be calling Giant first thing in the morning to try and get this resolved. See everyone soon.
