Fireplace heater issue

Hi everyone,
We have a 2010--3670 BH with a fireplace/desk combination. The fireplace has a thermostat that you can adjust. However lately the heater just turns itself off, (fireplace continues to be lighted}it does not appear to be hot and the thermostat is adjusted so it should not be turning off. Do you think it is the thermostat or is it time to consider replacing the heater, it has been used a lot over the last 5 years? If that is so, can I replace the heater without taking the complete unit out? Any help/comments/suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

I just took my Dimplex fireplace apart to replace the light bulbs and clean it out. For my model, there is no access to inside parts without removing the wood trim, removing the front glass, removing the 4 securing screws on the 2 front sides, and sliding the unit out of the wood enclosure. Removing the short black screws around the top sides lets you take off the top and see the heater, circuit boards and controls.

Having told you this much, I have to tell you that my heating function works O.K., so I did not investigate that. I DID replace one of the right hand controls that sets the simulated fire backround brightness.

I would suggest you contact Dimplex for more information. You will probably need your model/serial number which is on the top of the unit.

Had this same issue. Heater would turn off after a few minutes. I removed the fireplace (pretty easy).
I then vacuumed the whole area and cleaned everything with my air compressor. Unbelievable the
the tuff that was in the compartment. Saw dust, wood shavings, and plenty of dust. Been working
fine since. Hope this helps.

How much airflow do you normally get from the fireplace?

We recently purchased a 2008 3670 Bighorn and while the
fireplace works and the fan does moves some air, it is not
very much. You can feel it about 18" away but not much
more. Seems like it should blow more air.

I suspect just cleaning things out may help, but wondering
how much air flow is normal.

What you describe is pretty much how the fireplace works in my 2008 production Bighorn.

Just look where the cool air intake is.
mine and 2 of my friends unit are similar.
There are none.
Works well now after I added a 4 x 10 fresh air grill.

If it is not getting full air circulation the hi-limit may be hitting its set point and shutting off the element. Here is an old thread with link to manuals on HOM.

Hope this helps,

I see the thread is a few months old, but wanted to say, I contacted Dimplex regarding a similar thing happening, we discovered in Colorado when temps (in June) would get down to the 50s at night, and we ran the fireplace to get the chill off. After about 2 minutes, the blower would cut off. It seemed as though it was still heating, but not sure. We turned the unit off immediately.

Our Dimplex fireplace was purchased aftermarket, and we installed it ourselves. I told the woman who answered the warranty phone number what was happening, and my serial number. Because we were still under the 2 year warranty, she sent our the "blower/heater" part, no charge. We followed instructions provided to remove the unit and swap out the parts. I think it took about 30 minutes for the two of us to do it. (extra hands help in moving the fireplace and holding parts in place.) Heater ran well beyond the 2 minutes it was cutting off at previously, so we called it fixed. Will test more this fall, once it gets cold... July and Texas' 95+ temps are not the time to test. ;)

it could be the air filters. you want to make sure they are always clean that way your air conditioner, furnace ect. doesn't over work itself.
sorry i couldn't help more!
There are no filters in a Dimplex fireplace. It has a small self-contained heating element/fan combo mounted near the top on the inside. My guess is that it has a high limit switch that is kicking out for some reason. My fan quit working also. I took everything apart and blew out all the dust and it has been fine ever since....Don

Ours had a similiar issue, turned out the poteniometer for the temp setting was dirty. Called the manufacture and they sent me a new part which was easy to install. Ours still worked on the manual settings of 750W and 1500W during that time so we just couldnt use the on and off temp feature.
