Bird's nest in furnace air intake

Has anyone taken apart the duct work around the squirrel fan? A bird tried to build a nest in the air intake. We can see twigs inside . What is the best way to clean it out?

Hi m.golding,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and to the family. We have a great bunch of folks here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge when needed.

I had to take mine apart because a dirt-dobber built a nest in the fan. It's not hard, but a couple of small screws are hard to get to without taking the whole think out. But with a little patience and time it can be done by just taking the outer cover off and the duct for the intake.

Thanks for your reply. Was hoping the fan housing could be taken apart without removing everything. Will give it a try and let you know. With my limited tool selection here at camp, just concerned about the one screw on the housing tucked partly behind air intake pipe. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
