Door Slammers

Been on the road for a week now spending most nights at RV parks between Montana and Las Vegas Nv. I really can't understand the number of folks who can't close an RV door (either a 5er or MH) without SLAMMING THE DOOR!!!
Really annoying, especially at night:mad: For door slammers, please think about your neighbor next time ya slam the door!
Ok, I'm through griping

I feel your pain.
I've noticed that the latches on the trailer door locks have quite a shallow angle to them - not like the sweep that I see on the latches in our home. I think that really contributes to the need to "slam" the door so it actually latches properly.
I hate doing that, bad for the door, and noisy for sleepers indoors and the neighbors. (I've gotten into the habit of lifting up the latch handle as I close it and then pushing (or pulling) on the door to latch it completely).
Next time I'm at a rally, I'd like to corner someone in that department and ask them about it,....

Bill,
We fulltimed for three years and I agree with you. Many folks do the same thing with car doors, at 2AM!
I think it would be good to have a friendly reminder in the RV Park office about slamming doors, especially during quiet time.

DW has a newer SUV which requires only about 2 to 3 inches of the doors being open, to close easily.
My SIL and nephew stayed with us for a few days. When they closed the car doors, they would wind up from about 3 feet out and slam the doors, with a full arm swing!
It made me cringe, but if I say much "I'm being overly sensitive".

Back to the OP, I lubricate all my BH door latches every few months, or if they become difficult to close. Trace

How about barking dogs (attended or unattended), camp fires that smoke out others RVs, door slamming, and generator running during quiet time? Its kind of like a guy on the front row of a movie theater with a cell phone lit up during the movie. Discourteous to no end.

I was in New Mexico this season and the park had a place to light a fire. But the knuckle heads brought their own wood and it was wet pine, they kept trying to start the fire but could not get it hot enough to burn, meanwhile the smoke waffed across the park, inundating my rig and others. By the time it finally got lit my rig smelled like wet burned pine and news paper.

Rattle trap fords and dodges warming up for 20 minutes before slamming into the pin box.

And the Class A types that think their modern diesels need 30 minutes of warmup.

I thought this thread was about door slammers???? Guess you have to own a CHEVY if you DON'T want it to actually to SOUND LIKE A DIESEL. :)

Dogs, diesels and other noises are one thing. The DW can even close the entry door with one hand and not slam it. She has small hands. I think in this day and age some people have just forgotten common courtesy.

Starters, batteries and fuel injection technology have improved diesel motor starting. They no longer require extensive warming to operate. Why people idle is a mystery to me. But all that aside, why is it a problem to hook up the night before so they can pull out without all the vocalization, hitch slamming (assuming the get it the first time) trailer door slamming, garage door, basement, tailgate slamming, and the little chihuahua running in circles barking and biting his tail. If they want to pull out at four in the morning, so be it. I don't mind the noise of someone pulling out. But hooking up at 4 am does not seem rational to me.

Same goes for motel and hotel doors at 5 AM in the morning (or anytime for that matter). There is a Don Henley song called "Nobody else in the world" that cuts right to the chase concerning today's "it's all about me" mentality. Some of it is a lack of concern and some of it is people who are oblivious to anything around them (we also call them victims at times).

Early one morning a women with two yapping dogs stood in front of a row of trailers talking with someone else. When I mentioned that her dogs were probably disturbing others in their rigs she said "bite me". I told her that I don't eat fat. She left in a huff but I don't know why.

I can't hook up the night before if I want my camper to be level for the night. Guess that the drawback for having a lifted truck.

I really don't have heartburn about any necessary noise. Its unnecessary noise and just plain rudeness. I hate barking dogs especially unattended barking yapping inbred dogs that chase their tail and bark so much that their brains get rattled and that makes them bark more. LOL. Yappers, chihuahua with brains about the size of a golf ball if that. And its not really the dog but rather the owner of said dog. If I want to sit and listen to dogs bark I could just stay home.

We've had a guy behind us hear at the campground in Fl. with a diesel motor home and once a month he would start the thing up for about thirty minutes. The sites are very small hear in Fl. and everytime he would start that thing up the fumes would come into our coach via the back window, and when the fantastic fan is on it would fumigate us out of the coach, it use to irritate the living daylight out of me !! Thank god he bought a park model at the end of last season so I won't have to put up with that anymore. Some people just don't have any sense !!

RV doors have their own unique sound when closing and for me, I can't see how it can be avoided. Yes, one could very gently pull the latch and ease the door closed so as to make very little sound, but that's asking a lot. When/Where this manifests itself is RV parks where folks are passing thru and are in for one night, or have kids, or in short, living life. In & out is normal and closing that door requires a slight push which then sounds like a slam; but that's the way it is - I've learned to just tune it out like road noise - it exists in the background and will never go away. I do use the soft method if late and the area is otherwise quiet so as to not disturb others, but I also forget at times. It is what it is and don't believe it has anything to do with being discourteous or thoughtless.

After 5 seasons with the standard door latch it is hard to break the habit with the new electric lock latch (RV Lock). The new latch only requires a gentle push to close. Especially noticeable now that we have one door with and one without the new style latch.

MTP, I will agree with you in that the doors have a unique sound. Perfect example of what I'm talking about...we were parked yesterday at Sam's Town RV park off Boulder Highway in Las Vegas. An older gentleman (?) in a MH parked next spot over came home with a load of groceries and proceeded to carry the bags from the toad to the front door, his routine was carry a bag, open the MH door, insert bag on floor for his wife, SLAM door to close it, go back for another bag, open door, SLAM door to close it....necessary to slam the door? no not really IMHO the old coot was just NOT thinking about anything else other than getting his groceries out of the heat.

I couldn't agree more. Slamming doors, rattle trap diesels, people talking, kids playing, hooking and unhooking 5th wheels I can live with. Yappy little ankle biters that serve no real use other than to make this noise that can hardly be called a bark will make make BP double. People that own these things generally make no attempt to keep them quiet and will give YOU the death stare if they think YOU have a problem with THEIR little rat marking noise.

Sam's Town...... We'll be there Sept 30 for eight nights. Gonna gather enough coin in the Casino's to get one of those RV locks...
