Come Join us at Hickory Hollow Campground nestled in the Laurel Highlands of South West PA. This is a newer campground. We have reserved all large pull through, water, sewage, cable and 50amp electric sites.

The Rally is being held in conjuction with two large festivals in the area. Both within a few short miles from the campground. New Centerville Farmer's and Thresherman's Jubilee and Mountain Craft Days in Somerset.

The rally is the weekend prior to the Hershey RV show for those who wish to extend their visit to PA. Hershey is only 2.5 hours east of the campground.

The campground does not have the rates for the 2015 season yet, but they do not anticipate much of an increase, if any at all. The current 2014 rate is $35/day.

Hope to see you there!!

We'll be there. Arriving 9/10, departing 9/14 on Site #81.

Lyle and Nancy Mercer

That is awesome! I'm glad you guys can make it. Make sure you budget some time on Friday or Saturday to take the kids to the Jubilee down the road. They are going to love it. Antique steam engine trains and tractors. Crafts, kids activities, entertainment and of course lots of food. And for the big kids, truck and tractor pulls from daylight to dark for four days.

I also see you're joining us at Conawago Campground in Hershey the following weekend. I can't even remember what site were on. I'll have to call down and see if we can get close together.

What Ginger doesn't know is, right down the road a few miles, they're opening up a new independent RV service center. I was talking to the owner the other day and he said they have a new FlexAir pin box sitting there. I just hate to have to stop in there and look at it.

Hi everyone! I just realized that I never updated you guys on what I found out at the Glades Pike Winery. They won't be doing tours on Saturdays in September. That is a big production time for them. They can do tours on Fridays though. The good news is that tasting is available on Saturdays and other days as well. It is about a 20 minute trip from the campground. So, if wine is up your alley, it is worth the trip!

JWalker
08-29-2015, 03:51 PM
You may have noticed a different type of agenda for this rally. With so many activities going on throughout the weekend, we decided to forgo the normal Saturday evening potluck. Instead, we are having a full course breakfast Saturday morning. This will allow anyone who wants to enjoy the evening activities not to have to worry about getting back for a scheduled potluck dinner. Not to say we can't throw together a makeshift potluck for those who are not out and about. We are even thinking of having a potluck for those staying Sunday.

See everyone in 13 days.....If not sooner.

You should have stopped. They are having the county fair in Meyersdale all this week. Trust me I know. Madison won 2 Goldfish there on Friday. "They only cost 2 dollars to win them at the game" she said. Now those 2 fish cost me $38 yesterday. That just doesn't seem fair....

Are there any good routes to take from eastern MD and routes to stay away from?

We always take interstate 70 over to Hancock Maryland and then up to Breezewood Pennsylvania. Then take the PA Turnpike to exit 110 Somerset. Route 281 S. for about 6 miles to the campground.

There is some construction on the turnpike coming from both ways up to exit 110. Not bad. They are in the process of putting in a third lane on the turnpike.

Thanks I had a couple of route showing up for me 83 to 76 and then 70 but most of that route looked like construction. I can either go up and over or go down up then over. It looked like neither route was any faster than the other and I know towing a trailer always takes a little longer.

When you're coming back from Laurel Caverns, go through Ohiopyle. You can take the girls out on to the overhang that overlooks the waterfalls. And they have great ice cream there too. (Falls Market)

It's easy to do online. Fill in the info on your truck and trailer ie make model license plate#,etc. You need to give them a CC for auto reload of your card.
I did get a call from them to verify my info but it was real easy to do.
Applied for mine because we went west again this year and it was handy for the tolls on the turnpike and going around Chi-town.
Plus tolls are less with the pass than paying cash.

Lyle is right. Easy to do. The tolls are high enough as is, but even higher if you don't have EZPass. We just upped our reload amount at the beginning of the season. It was easy to burn through $40-$50 on a round trip.

There is not one planned. We decided to go with big breakfast Saturday morning. There are so many festivals going on Saturday that we did not want to interfere with anyone's plans for Saturday afternoon/evening. Not to say we might not have an impromptu potluck with anybody that's hanging around.

Saturday morning breakfast: Bacon, eggs, pancakes and toast. Coffee and Juice.

I turned right. But you can do both. Both lead you to Main Street. Look for 281 south signs.

-Come off turnpike. At light at Harley Davidson dealer, go straight. Go to second light (CVS), Turn right on Main Street.

-Come off turnpike. At light at Harley Davidson dealer, turn right. Go to third light, turn right on a Main Street.

-When you get onto Main Street, get into Left lane. When you come to the end of the one-way street on main street you must turn left to get onto 281 S.

-Follow 281 south to campground.

JWalker

My recommendation would be to go straight and turn at the CVS. There is a little bit more room to make it the turn there. It is a lot tighter and more congested in the main part of town to make the turn. Both ways can be done easily. That is just my opinion.

If the PTC website is up to date the only construction from I79 to I83 is in the EB lanes between Donegal and Somerset lanes. Donegal is west of Somerset for those not familiar with the PA turnpike.

I can't remember if I mentioned this before but I will mention it again. There are several diesel fuel stations in Somerset but most are difficult to get in and out of with a trailer. If you are unhooked, I recommend these two. Both have quality fuel and move high volumes.
