Running the Water Heater off the Generator?

All,

If you have followed my resent posts you know that my WH Stopped working on Gas ( my normal way of using it ) and I am now awaiting parts but was planning on going Boondocking for a few days. SO I fired up the Generator and tested to verify that it would handle the 9-10amp draw for the Water Heater Electrical element - it would appear that there is no power to the switch. is that somehow bypassed by design?

Ok - I have taken my Dummy hat off once again and realized that I should check the breakers on the Genny - one side of the 220 was off... so that would be the side that the water heater is on ... all is well now ... Off Boon-docking now
