storing 5th wheel

We have decided to store our bighorn in the south during the seasons when we are not traveling rather than tow it up and down the east coast with the price of diesel and the wear & tear on both us and the unit. The storage place has both a cover and electric available. Our questions are: would it be better to leave the slides open or closed during storage? plugged in to keep batteries up & charged during storage or batteries turned off with a disconnect switch during storage? keep refrigerator operating if battries are left on or turned off and door open during storage? Unit would probably be left for 7 or 8 months during storage (spring, summer & fall) before next trip time (we both work for part of the year in a new england tourist town and travel during off season) Thanks for your thoughts.

We store ours with the slides in, the reefer disconnected and doors open (to prevent moisture from molding) and power on to run only a rodent repeller. We learned the lesson of mice getting in and having a free-for-all during the winter making clean up intense.

Where in the South will you be storing the unit? We live in North Florida and when we are not using the unit we run a dehumidifier in it. This has worked for us for several years without having the worry of mildew forming.

will probably store in north georgia mountain area. was also wondering what kind of rodent repeller and how it works mentioned by first respondant? dehumidifier sounds like a good idea but how would you keep it drained?

The dehumidifier has a hose fitting that we have attached a hose to. The unit is set on a box that is higher then the shower drain that we let it drain into and leave the gray water drain open to keep from filling up the tank. Using the dehumidifier does assume that you have shore power available. I can provide the make & model for you if you like.
